For the purposes of this category, "Central America" is defined in accordance with the World Geographical Scheme for Recording Plant Distributions (WGSRPD) as a biogeographical region of Template:C, comprising:

• Belize
• Costa Rica
• El Salvador
• Guatemala
• Honduras
• Nicaragua
• Panama
• The Central American Pacific Islands — Clipperton Island, Cocos Island, & Malpelo Island.

Taxa of the lowest rank are always included. Higher taxa are included only if endemic.

In other phytogeographic systems, Central America is a region of Template:C, with the bi-coastal Isthmus of Panama region a distribution ecotone of Northern and Southern America.

Note that Template:C is not included in this region, but within Northern America under Template:C.
