It is the main ferry port for the Aran Islands in Galway Bay. It is about Template:Convert from Galway city. The village is located in the Barony of Moycullen.[1][2]

The Irish name Script error: No such module "Lang". means "peninsula (or wood) of the whale (or sea monster)".[3] It may also mean "the wooded hill".[4][5] The village is the home of the Script error: No such module "Lang". centre under Script error: No such module "Lang"., an Irish language immersion summer camp for teenagers. It is served by Bus Éireann route 424 from Galway.[6] A ferry service to the Aran Islands runs from the harbour.Template:Fact

As of the 2011 census, there were 208 people living in Script error: No such module "Lang". townland, with 73% of these speaking Irish daily.[7]
