The protein has been shown to play a role in JNK activation.[2]

Optimization of inhibitors of MAP4K1 for upregulating the T cell receptor signaling pathway has produced at least one compound that exhibits antitumor activity in an EMT6 syngeneic mouse model, and is an area of ongoing research.[10]
