The grey brotula[1][2] or orange cuskeel[3] (Bidenichthys consobrinus) is a rare species of viviparous brotula found around northern New Zealand.[1][2] It inhabits rocky reef areas down to 30 m depth.[1]

IUCN[1] and the Catalog of Fishes[4] consider Bidenichthys beeblebroxi a synonym of Bidenichthys consobrinus.
