Cyclopentanol or cyclopentyl alcohol is the organic compound with the formula Template:Chem2. It is classified as a cyclic alcohol.

Synthesis and reactions

The bio-derived "platform chemical" furfural can be efficiently converted to cyclopentanol by hydrodeoxygenation using a copper catalyst.[1] or a nickelcobalt catalyst.[2]

Cyclopentanol can then be easily dehydrated to cyclopentene, which in turn can be converted to cyclopentyl methyl ether.

Cyclopentanol is an intermediate in the oxidation of cyclopentene to cyclopentanone.[3]
