Weenzen
Template:Use dmy dates Template:Infobox German location Weenzen is a village and a former municipality in the district of Hildesheim in Lower Saxony, Germany.[1] Since 1 November 2016, it is part of the municipality Duingen.[2][1] As of 2025, it has approximately 380 residents.[3]
Long-standing businesses based in Weenzen include an international haulage company and a funeral company.[3] There are both active and inactive farmsteads.[3]
Notable landmarks in Weenzen include the St. Maternus Chapel built in 1887 and an old school built from limestone.[3] The southwestern part of the village was mined from the Middle Ages onward.[3] Lignite was mined through 1966, after which was the area was recultivated.[4] Today the Weenzer Bruch is a geologic educational and recreational area.[1][4]
As of February 2023, Weenzen has its own volunteer fire brigade.[5]
