Waltheof, Waldeve or Waldef is a masculine name of Old English origin and it survives in present-day as the name Waldo. Its original meaning is uncertain, although it has been proposed that it derives from Old Norse Valþjófr, equivalent to Old English weald (“powerful, mighty”) or wæl (“slaughter, carnage”) + þēof (“thief”).
