Uchanie Template:IPAc-pl is a village in Hrubieszów County, Lublin Voivodeship, in eastern Poland.Template:TERYT It is the seat of the gmina (administrative district) called Gmina Uchanie. It lies approximately Script error: No such module "convert". north-west of Hrubieszów and Script error: No such module "convert". south-east of the regional capital Lublin.
Upon the German invasion of Poland in 1939, Uchanie had a population of 1,161 Jews. The Jewish population was sent to nearby Hrubieszów, from where they were sent to the Sobibór extermination camp. The Jewish community then ceased to exist.[1]
According to the data of the ethnographic expedition of 1869-1870 under the leadership of Pavlo Chubynskyi, Greek Catholics who spoke Ukrainian lived in this village[2]
Between the years of 1928-1932, the Polish government ordered the destruction of the local Orthodox church as part of a large-scale campaign to destroy Ukrainian churches in the Kholm region and Podlasie.[3]
