Trichaptum biforme
Trichaptum biforme, commonly known as the violet-pored bracket fungus,[1] purple tooth, or violet-toothed polypore, is a species of poroid fungus in the order Hymenochaetales.
Description
Growing to Script error: No such module "convert". in width, it is initially violet before fading into zones of white to brown, retaining violet at the margin for a time.[2][3][4]
Similar species
It is sometimes confused with Trichaptum abietinum, which grows almost exclusively on conifers,[4] as do T. byssogenum and T. fuscoviolaceum.[2] Skeletocutis lilacina is also similar.[2]
Distribution and habitat
It is widely distributed and occurs on at least 65 tree hosts, but rarely on conifers.[4]
It is a saprobe that decomposes hardwood stumps and logs.[3][4]
