Thymophylla pentachaeta, also known as fiveneedle pricklyleaf,[1] golden dyssodia or dogweed, is a perennial or subshrub in the family Asteraceae.

The plant grows up to Script error: No such module "convert". tall. The leaves are about Script error: No such module "convert". long and pinnately divided. From April to October, atop leafless stalks are solitary yellow flower heads, Script error: No such module "convert". wide, with 8–13 rays surrounding disk flowers.[2] T. acerosa is woodier, with leaves closer to the flowers.[2]

Four varieties are recognised:[3]

  • Thymophylla pentachaeta var. hartwegii (A.Gray) StrotherScript error: No such module "Check for unknown parameters".
  • Thymophylla pentachaeta var. pentachaeta

The species is native to the southwestern and south-central United States, Mexico, and Argentina,[3] being found in arid climates.[2]
