The Men Who Explained Miracles, first published in 1963, is a volume of short stories written by John Dickson Carr; the stories feature his series detectives Gideon Fell, Henry Merrivale and Colonel March, of the "Department of Queer Complaints".[1][2] The stories are mostly reprints of stories previously published in magazines.[3]

- "The Black Cabinet"; this is a story in which an attempt to assassinate Napoleon III is foiled by a contemporaneous historical figure from another context.
