The starry owlet-nightjar (Aegotheles tatei), also known as the spangled owlet-nightjar, is a species of bird in the family Aegothelidae. It is found in New Guinea. Its natural habitat is subtropical or tropical moist lowland forests. It is threatened by habitat loss.

It was previously considered a subspecies of Feline owlet-nightjar.[1] Due to phylogenetic data confirmation[2] and morphological differences, it has been treated as a separate species, and given the common name "Starry" based on its plumage [3]
