Simms Independent School District is a public school district based in the community of Simms, Texas (USA). In 2009, the school district was rated "recognized" by the Texas Education Agency.[1]

During 2022Template:Nbndash2023, James Bowie Elementary School had an enrollment of 212 students in grades PKTemplate:Nbndash5 and a student to teacher ratio of 12.76.[4]

Controversy

In July 2024, the ACLU of Texas sent Simms Independent School District a letter, alleging that the district's 2023Template:Nbndash2024 dress and grooming code appeared to violate the Texas CROWN Act, a state law which prohibits racial discrimination based on hair texture or styles, and asking the district to revise its policies for the 2024Template:Nbndash2025 school year.[5][6]
