Ricardo Gomes Vilana (born 18 July 1981) is a retired Brazilian footballer.

Career

Early career

Ricardo Vilana was on born 18 July 1981 in São Paulo, Brazil, starting to play football at local club, Portuguesa, afterwards moving to play in the Swiss lower leagues at Malcantone Agno.[1][2][3] After his daughter was born, Vilana decided to not play football anymore, instead he played futsal.[1][2][3][4]

Unirea Urziceni

He was brought back to playing football about two years later, being convinced to sign with Romanian club Unirea Urziceni by his brother-in-law, Alex Leandro who was playing there.[1][2][3][4][5] Vilana made his Liga I debut on 10 September 2006 when coach Costel Orac sent him on the field in order to replace Alexandru Pojer in the 85th minute of a 2–0 home win over Național București.[1][6] Ricardo helped the club win the 2008–09 Liga I edition, under the coaching of Dan Petrescu who used him 20 games in which he scored once in a 2–0 away victory against Politehnica Iași.[1][2][3][4][7][8] In the following season he made five appearances in the 2009–10 Champions League group stage, playing against VfB Stuttgart, Sevilla and Rangers, helping the team earn 8 points and finishing third, thus qualifying to the sixteenths-finals of the Europa League where he played in both legs of the 4–1 loss in front of Liverpool.[1][2][3][4][7][9]

Steaua București

In August 2010 he signed a contract with Steaua București alongside teammates from Unirea Urziceni: Galamaz, Marinescu, Apostol, Bilașco, Onofraș and Brandán.[10]

Firstly he was sent by coach Ilie Dumitrescu to play in Liga II for the team's satellite club, Steaua II București, making his debut against Juventus București, the team winning 1–0 with his goal.[11] Afterwards he started to play for the first team, including making five appearances in the 2010–11 Europa League group stage against Liverpool, Napoli and Utrecht, failing to qualify further as they finished third.[1][7][12] Also by the end of the season the team won the Cupa României, but he did not get to play in the final as he and fellow Brazilian Éder Bonfim terminated their contracts on mutual agreement with the club on 4 May 2011.[1][7][13]

Khazar Lankaran

Vilana and Bonfim went together to play for Khazar Lankaran in Azerbaijan, being brought there by Romanian coach, Mircea Rednic.[7][14] He left the club after about one year in which the team finished runner-up in the 2011–12 season, also making appearances in qualification rounds of the Europa League.[1][15]

Late career

In 2013, Vilana signed a contract with FC Andorra from the Spanish fifth league, afterwards returning to Brazil, having spells at Guaratinguetá in Série C and then in 2016 at Série A club, Coritiba for whom however he did not get to play.[7][16][17]
