Phellinus pomaceus is a plant pathogen particularly common on Prunus species.[1][2] It is not aggressively pathogenic but can cause considerable decay in trees suffering from other stress factors.[2] P. pomaceus is found in Europe as well as areas of Asia, South America and Africa. This species has historically been used for medicinal purposes and is currently being researched for its chemical and biological properties.[3] This is a very long-lived conk, bearing as many as eighty annual growth rings.[4]
