His first novel Play Things won the Somerset Maugham Award in 1973.[2] He was nominated for an Emmy Award for Outstanding Writing in a Limited Series or a Special for his work on the 1980 BBC miniseries Oppenheimer. His 1983 novel The Good Father was adapted into a 1985 film of the same name starring Anthony Hopkins.[3] His latest novel Adam Runaway was published in 2005.
