List of sub-dialects

Script error: No such module "Unsubst".

Phonology

  • Lack of vowel reduction:Template:Sfn unstressed Script error: No such module "IPA". does not merge with Script error: No such module "IPA". (okanye).Template:Sfn Unstressed Script error: No such module "IPA"., Script error: No such module "IPA". and Script error: No such module "IPA". after soft consonants also do not typically merge.Template:Sfn
  • Some dialects have high or diphthongal Script error: No such module "IPA". (in the Novgorod subgroup even Script error: No such module "IPA".) as a reflex of Template:Proto.Template:SfnTemplate:Sfn
  • In the eastern part of the group the change of every Template:Proto to Script error: No such module "IPA". before hard (unpalatalized) consonants occurs (in Standard Russian only in stressed syllables). Template:Proto also changes to Script error: No such module "IPA". in these positions but only in stressed syllables.Template:Sfn
  • Also in the eastern part of the dialect group there is Script error: No such module "IPA". in certain positions instead of Standard Russian Script error: No such module "IPA"..Template:SfnTemplate:Sfn
  • Tsokanye: the merger of Standard Russian Script error: No such module "IPA". and Script error: No such module "IPA". into one consonant whether Script error: No such module "IPA"., Script error: No such module "IPA". or Script error: No such module "IPA". (like in Pskov and Ryazan Southern Russian dialects).Template:Sfn
  • In the Vologda region, final hard Script error: No such module "IPA". is replaced by a semivowel Script error: No such module "IPA"..
  • Script error: No such module "IPA"., Script error: No such module "IPA"., Script error: No such module "IPA". are like in Standard Russian (differs from Southern Russian).Template:Sfn Nevertheless, in some sub-dialects Script error: No such module "IPA"., Script error: No such module "IPA". can also be replaced with semivowel Script error: No such module "IPA". like in Southern Russian.
  • In some dialects traces of unreduced Template:Proto, which normally reduced to Script error: No such module "IPA". in all of East Slavic: Script error: No such module "Lang". Script error: No such module "IPA". "the sound between Lake Pskov and Lake Chud" (instead of expected Script error: No such module "Lang". Script error: No such module "IPA".), Script error: No such module "Lang". Script error: No such module "IPA". from earlier Script error: No such module "Lang". Script error: No such module "IPA". "reread (past tense)" (instead of standard Script error: No such module "Lang". Script error: No such module "IPA".). In these examples, the groups *tl, dl dissimilated to Script error: No such module "IPA"., Script error: No such module "IPA". instead of reducing to Script error: No such module "IPA".. Some (Shakhmatov, Durnovo) see this as an indication of possible West Slavic admixture in those areas, while others (Trubetzkoy, Lehr-Spławiński[3]) treat it as an archaism from Proto-Slavic times.Template:Sfn

Morphology

  • A suffixed definite article -to, -ta, -te similarly existing in Bulgarian.Template:Sfn
  • 3rd person verbal ending with non-palatalized -t as in Standard Russian.Template:Sfn
