Norman Hughes (born 30 September 1952) is an English former field hockey player who competed at the 1984 Summer Olympics and was a coach during the 1988 Summer Olympics.[1]

Biography

Hughes was born in Nantwich, Cheshire, and attended Crewe County Grammar School for Boys. He was also a competent cricketer.[2]

He played club hockey for Wakefield Hockey Club[3] in the Men's England Hockey League. He played at the 1978 Men's Hockey World Cup[4] and was the captain of the England team at the 1982 Men's Hockey World Cup and won a bronze medal with the Great Britain squad at the 1984 Olympic Games in Los Angeles.[5] He also won silver with the England squad at the 1986 Men's Hockey World Cup in London.[6][7]

He later coached at Wakefield Hockey Club[2] and went on to become both the coach of Great Britain and England.[8]
