Template:Italic title In sumo, Template:Xlit-ranked wrestlers receive a monetary reward at the end of each tournament that supplements their basic salary. This system is called Script error: No such module "Nihongo"., and it is based on a personal bounty held by each wrestler called Script error: No such module "Nihongo"..

Overview

In addition to their monthly salary, Template:Xlit are eligible to receive monetary awards based on their performance in tournaments. These bounties are paid six times a year, at each tournament, to Template:Xlit-ranked wrestlers (competing in the Template:Xlit division or higher). Wrestlers in the Template:Xlit division and below do not receive a salary, though they are given an allowance.

Since the most common way to increase the bounties is to achieve Template:Xlit (having more wins than losses) in a tournament, a match in which a wrestler stands at seven wins and seven losses on the final day of a tournament will decide whether he achieves Template:Xlit or Template:Xlit (more losses than wins). This occurrence is sometimes referred to as Script error: No such module "Nihongo".; a win in these circumstances is called Script error: No such module "Nihongo"., and a loss is called Script error: No such module "Nihongo"..

The Template:Xlit with the smallest bounty was the 60th Template:Xlit Futahaguro, who never won a championship. Having been in the makuuchi ranks for only 20 tournaments, he had received only Template:JPY at the time of his expulsion.

When a wrestler enters professional sumo, he is credited with Template:JPY.[1] Every time he achieves Template:Xlit, this value increases by Template:JPY (or 50 Template:Xlit) for each additional win over the number of losses (e.g. Template:JPY for a 9–6 record). No deduction is made for a Template:Xlit record, a leave of absence, or a suspension.

There are minimum values of Template:Xlit that are paid to wrestlers of different rank (Template:Xlit, Template:Xlit, Template:Xlit and Template:Xlit), should they not be eligible for a greater amount already. If a wrestler is subsequently demoted, any amount awarded through these minimums in excess of that earned via the wrestler's win-loss record will be deducted again from the Template:Xlit account.

Bonuses

In addition, wrestlers with outstanding performancs will receive bonuses. A Template:Xlit will receive a Template:JPY bonus if he can defeat a Template:Xlit during a tournament. Such a win is called a Template:Xlit (Template:Lit "gold star"). Former Template:Xlit Akinoshima won 16 Template:Xlit during his career,[2] which gave him a Template:Xlit account that was larger than those of many Template:Xlit.

Winning the Template:Xlit (championship) gives a bonus of Template:JPY, which increases to Template:JPY if the championship was won with a "perfect" record of 15–0, which is called a Script error: No such module "Nihongo"..

Conversion

The value of the Template:Xlit account is multiplied by a predefined number to give the actual distributed monetary bonus to the Template:Xlit wrestlers; the current multiplier, since the year 1998, is 4,000.[3] This means that, as an example, a Template:Xlit victory will be worth Template:JPY per annum additional income for the remainder of the wrestler's career.

Evolution
Until 1969 1,000
1970–1984 1,500
1985–1997 2,500
1998–present 4,000

Examples

With its strong bias towards large Template:Xlit scores and top division championships, the highest Template:Xlit accounts are credited to the strongest Template:Xlit. Template:Xlit accounts of over Template:JPY (corresponding to an additional income of Template:JPY per year) have been achieved by the very strongest Template:Xlit such as Taihō, Chiyonofuji and Hakuhō.
