The Marine Parade Group Representation Constituency was a five-member Group Representation Constituency (GRC) located in the central, eastern and north-eastern areas of Singapore. The constituency consisted of a section of Bedok, Chai Chee, Geylang, Kaki Bukit, Kallang, Kembangan, Marine Parade, Mountbatten, Ubi, Serangoon and Hougang. There were a total of 5 divisions in this GRC: Marine Parade, Geylang Serai, Braddell Heights, Joo Chiat and Kembangan-Chai Chee managed by Marine Parade Town Council.

History

Creation

Marine Parade GRC was formed in 1988 and was won by the People's Action Party (PAP) against the Singapore Justice Party (SJP) with 73.8% against the 26.2% earned by the latter. The PAP helmed by then-PM Goh Chok Tong won in a rematch in 1991 with a much higher vote with 77.25% of the vote. In the 1992 by-election, Lim Chee Onn retired and was replaced by Teo Chee Hean. The PAP won with 72.9% of the vote against the SDP team led by future Secretary-General Chee Soon Juan. Afterwards from 1997 to 2006, the GRC was uncontested. In the 2011 general elections, the GRC compromising of then-Senior Minister Goh Chok Tong, incumbent MPs, Seah Kian Peng and Fatimah Lateef with two new candidates Tan Chuan-Jin and Tin Pei Ling. The PAP team won the elections with 56.65% of the votes against the National Solidarity Party led by Cheo Chai Chen. It was the second-worst performing GRC after East Coast GRC.

2020 election

On 17 July 2023, Tan Chuan-Jin resigned from Parliament and as member of the PAP due to "propriety and personal conduct".[1]

Dissolution

In 2025, the Chai Chee HDB estates and Siglap private estates from the GRC are carved out to be merged into East Coast GRC. The remainder of the GRC will be merged with MacPherson Single Member Constituency (SMC), a portion of Mountbatten SMC, and also a portion of Potong Pasir SMC into Marine Parade-Braddell Heights GRC.[2][3]
