The Las Piñas Boys Choir of Las Piñas, Philippines is a boys' choir made up of scholarship students at St. Joseph's Academy of Las Piñas, and other schools within Las Piñas City. Along with their conductor, Professor Armando V. Salarza, they perform in many events and regularly in the annual International Bamboo Organ Festival and at the Parish of St. Joseph.

History

In 1969, Father Leo Renier, C.I.C.M., the parish priest of the Las Piñas Parish, suggested having a choir of boys in white soutanes sing on the stage during the Midnight Mass. In 1972, they decided to participate in the First Children’s Choir Competition at the Cultural Center of the Philippines (CCP), still carrying the former name “Himig Kawayan Boys Choir”. There, they won third place. From then on, invitations to perform outside Las Piñas became more frequent, including invitations to perform in Malacañang. They became known as the Las Piñas Boys Choir during the 70s. [1] in 2008, they participated in the 5th World Choir Games with 20 of their members. They won gold and silver medals and was declared Champion.

Recordings

Two LP-records were made. The first one was recorded on the occasion of the Inaugural Concerts of the Bamboo Organ in 1975, with Wolfgang Oehms on the organ. The second was recorded a few months later and released with the title: "Christmas Carols on the Las Piñas Bamboo Organ", with Zenas Reyes Lozada as accompanist.
