Katma Tui is a comic book superhero, an extraterrestrial from the planet Korugar, and a member of the intergalactic police force known as the Green Lantern Corps. She is the Green Lantern successor of the supervillain Sinestro and the predecessor of Sinestro's daughter, Soranik Natu.
Katma Tui has made limited appearances in other media, primarily in association with the Green Lanterns. Kim Mai Guest and Tara Strong voice the character in Justice League and Duck Dodgers respectively.
Publication history
Katma Tui first appeared in Green Lantern (vol. 2) #30 (July 1964) and was created by writer John Broome and artist Gil Kane.[1]
Fictional character biography
Katma Tui hails from the planet Korugar, in the area of space designated Sector 1417 by the Guardians of the Universe. After Sinestro, the sector's Green Lantern, takes over Korugar and is imprisoned in the antimatter universe, Tomar-Re nominates Tui to replace him. The people of Korugar come to view the Green Lantern symbol as one of oppression and pain and see Tui as a monster for joining the group.
In her first mission as a Lantern, Tui and Korugaran scientist Imi Kann destroy an amoeba-like alien threatening Korugar. She considers leaving the Corps to be with him, but Hal Jordan convinces her not to.[2]
In subsequent appearances, Tui marries John Stewart, recruits Rot Lop Fan into the Green Lantern Corps, and works with several Lanterns in California, including Kilowog, Ch'p, and Arisia Rrab.[3]
Katma Tui is later killed by Star Sapphire.[4] She has remained dead since, but is temporarily resurrected in Green Lantern: Mosaic and Blackest Night.[5]
