KDLS-FM (105.5 MHz) is a commercial FM radio station licensed to Perry, Iowa, and serving the Des Moines metropolitan area. It airs a regional Mexican music format, known as "Template:Langr". (Template:Langr translates to "The Law".) KDLS-FM is owned by Rick Ball, through licensee Trinity Communications, Inc.[1] The transmitter and broadcast tower are located on West Avenue in Granger, Iowa, halfway between Perry and Des Moines.[2]
History
On February 26, 1971, KDLS-FM first signed on.[3] It was originally on 104.9 MHz. It was owned by the Perry Broadcasting Company, along with KDLS (1310 AM). Even though both stations continue to share the KDLS call sign, they are now separately owned.
In the 1990s, KDLS-FM moved to 101.7 MHz and then later 105.5 MHz. The station broadcast a country music format with frequent farm reports.[4]
In the early 2000s, KDLS-FM was sold to owners specializing in Latin music formats. It switched to regional Mexican music.
Effective May 19, 2023, Latin Broadcasting Company sold KDLS-FM for $1.84 million to Trinity Communications, Inc. Trinity, operator of the statewide Iowa Catholic Radio network of Catholic radio stations,[5] continued to program the "Template:Langr" regional Mexican format on KDLS-FM until early 2025.
In March 2025, Iowa Catholic Radio announced that its programming would move in Des Moines from KWKY to KDLS-FM on April 1;[6] the call sign will change to KIHS,[7] which had previously been used by Adel sister station KQBV. KWKY will, in turn, take on the "Template:Langr" programming[6] and change its call sign to KDLX.[8]
