Template:Short description Template:Infobox lunar eclipse A partial lunar eclipse will occur at the Moon’s ascending node of orbit on Friday, June 26, 2048,[1] with an umbral magnitude of 0.6404. A lunar eclipse occurs when the Moon moves into the Earth's shadow, causing the Moon to be darkened. A partial lunar eclipse occurs when one part of the Moon is in the Earth's umbra, while the other part is in the Earth's penumbra. Unlike a solar eclipse, which can only be viewed from a relatively small area of the world, a lunar eclipse may be viewed from anywhere on the night side of Earth. Occurring only about 21 hours after perigee (on June 25, 2048, at 5:50 UTC), the Moon's apparent diameter will be larger.[2]

Visibility

The eclipse will be completely visible over South America, west and southern Africa, and Antarctica, seen rising over much of North America and setting over Europe, east Africa, and west, central, and south Asia.[3]

Eclipse season

Half-Saros cycle

A lunar eclipse will be preceded and followed by solar eclipses by 9 years and 5.5 days (a half saros).[5] This lunar eclipse is related to two annular solar eclipses of Solar Saros 147.
