Helvécia is a village in Bács-Kiskun county, in the Southern Great Plain region of southern Hungary.
History
Helvécia was founded in 1892 by Swiss-born teacher Template:Ill.[1] After the great phylloxera epidemic that had destroyed much of the historical vineyard plantings in the 1870s, sandy soils of the Great Plains became much more valuable for grape cultivation than before.Script error: No such module "Unsubst". Helvécia was settled by 501 vineyard workers, most of them from the Balaton wine country.Script error: No such module "Unsubst". It gained independence of nearby Kecskemét in 1952.[1]
Geography
