It requires a rich, moist soil and full sun.[1]

The Latin specific epithet septemfida means "with seven divisions".[2]

In cultivation this plant[3] and the darker-flowered variety G. septemfida var. lagodechiana[4] have gained the Royal Horticultural Society's Award of Garden Merit.[5]
