Toponymy
Fenxi literally means west (Script error: No such module "Lang-zh".) of the Fen River (Script error: No such module "Lang-zh".), due to the county's location along the western banks of the Fen River.[2]
History
According to the Yuanhe Maps and Records of Prefectures and Counties, the area of present-day Fenxi County was once known as Yicheng (Script error: No such module "Lang-zh".).[2]
The Western Han organized the area as Zhi County (Script error: No such module "Lang-zh".), which the Eastern Han changed to Yong'an County (Script error: No such module "Lang-zh".).[2]
The Northern Wei reorganized the area was Fenxi Commandery (Script error: No such module "Lang-zh".).[2]

Geography
