To the south of the village is Farnhill Hall, a Grade I listed fortified manor house, dating from the 15th century but much altered.[3]

Until 1974 it was part of the West Riding of Yorkshire.[4] From 1974 to 2023 it was part of the district of Craven, it is now administered by the unitary North Yorkshire Council.
