Dutta, also spelled Datta (Template:IPAc-en), is an Indian surname.Template:Sfn Its variation is Dutt.
The surname is commonly found among Bengali Kayasthas,Template:SfnTemplate:Sfn Suvarna Baniks, Gandhabaniks and some other castes in Bengal.[1][2] The surname is also used by the Mohyal Brahmins of Punjab.[3]
Datta means "given" or "granted" in Sanskrit and is also an alternative name for the Hindu deity Dattatreya.
