General Guidelines

Surnames for repeated mentions?

If referring to historical figures repeatedly, should the format be their surname or given name? That is, if a name is in [surname] [given name] format, should i say, "[Surname] did xyz", or [Given name] did xyz"? Saturniapavonia (talk) 21:00, 7 November 2024 (UTC)

Questions about romanization

Should romanizations include Japanese punctuation or symbols like interpuncts and wave dashes (e.g., romanizing Template:Category handler as Kuraudo・Sutoraifu)? Also, should Latin text be romanized as if it were transliterated into Japanese (e.g., romanizing Template:Category handler as Gokū bāsasu Bejīta)? The katakana middle dot simply indicates where a break should be, so it can be interpreted as a space when romanizing. For vs., it's not immediately clear what sound it indicates and would have to be examined on a case-by-case basis if romanizing. It is sometimes read as バーサス, but is as likely to be read as ブイエス. Rather than handling this at the level of the style guide, it is better to follow common usage. Dekimasuよ! 05:31, 30 March 2025 (UTC)

Thank you. What about titles that contain both Japanese and full Latin-text words? For instance, Template:Category handler; should I leave "Lucy's diary" as it is, since it's already in Latin script, or romanize it as if it were written as Template:Category handler, even if there's no Japanese reading provided by the work?
