Structure and standards
Articles should follow WP:USRD/STDS.
Naming conventions
The following names and abbreviations should be used, as they are the forms commonly used by ALDOT; see WP:USSH for information on how to apply them.

Shields
The various shield graphics are located in Category:Alabama State Route shields on Commons. Template:Tl can create the various links to highway articles with the appropriate shield graphics for use in the infobox or junction lists.
Categories
All state highways should include the category tag: [[Category:State highways in Alabama|nnnA]] where nnn is a 3-digit route number, and A is the letter designation if any (e.g. SR-1A is "001A", SR-2 is "002"). Also place the article in the category for any counties and cities it passes through, with a sort key of - for example - "State Route 001A" (for SR-1A), "U.S. Highway 80-2" (for US-280), or "Interstate 59-4" (for I-459). Use Category:Interstate Highways in Alabama for highways that are also part of the Interstate Highway System in the state and Category:U.S. Highways in Alabama for highways that are also part of the U.S. Highway System in the state.
Templates
Infobox
Use Template:Tl or Template:Tl as needed for articles. The state parameters should contain the state's postal abbreviation. The type codes are the same as for the junction template below.
Junction template
Use Template:Tl to create the entries in a junction list section for the article, or the junction list in the infobox. To use, insert {{jct|state=AL|type|number}} into the article. If two to four highways are needed, use {{jct|state=AL|type|first number|type|second number}}. Types can be I for Interstates, US for US Routes or AL for state routes. Further instructions can be found on the documentation page.
