Wiki143:WikiProject Metal/Assessment

One of the main tasks of the Metal WikiProject is to assess the quality of Wikipedia's Heavy Metal articles. The resulting article ratings are used within the project to help in recognising excellent contributions and identifying topics in need of further work. They also play a role in the WP:1.0 program, which the WikiProject uses to help automate some of the assessing process.

The assessment is done in a distributed fashion through parameters in the Template:Tl project banner; this causes the articles to be placed in the appropriate sub-categories of Category:Heavy Metal articles by quality, which serve as the foundation for an automatically generated worklist. WP:1.0 also produces a statistics page, and a log of articles assessed.

How to Assess

An article's assessment is generated on its talkpage from the class parameter in Template:Tl, the WikiProject's banner. To add the banner, add the following to its talkpage:

To add an assessment, simply fill in the class parameter with the appropriate letters. The following values may be used:

• FA (adds articles to Category:FA-Class Heavy Metal articles; should only be used for articles that are currently listed as featured articles)
• A (adds articles to Category:A-Class Heavy Metal articles;
• GA (adds articles to Category:GA-Class Heavy Metal articles; should only be used for articles that are currently listed as good articles)
• B (adds articles to Category:B-Class Heavy Metal articles)
• Start (adds articles to Category:Start-Class Heavy Metal articles)
• Stub (adds articles to Category:Stub-Class Heavy Metal articles)

Articles automatically assessed as stub class by a bot are added to Category:Automatically assessed heavy metal articles.

Articles for which a valid class is not provided are listed in Category:Unassessed Heavy Metal articles. The criteria for the different classes is below.

Quality scale

WikiProject Metal uses the same criteria for grading articles as set out by the Version 1.0 Editorial Team. If you are not sure what class an article falls under, leave a note on the WikiProject's talkpage, and someone will help you out.
