Welcome to WikiProject Deletion sorting. Some Wikipedians have formed a project to create a workable system for Deletion sorting, which has evolved into a complementary way of organizing deletion discussions (e.g. they are organized into topical lists in addition to their normal organization by date alone).

To help this project, please add new AFD discussions to one of the current list of deletion categories. For more information on WikiProjects, please see Wikipedia:WikiProjects and Wikipedia:WikiProject best practices.

It must be noted that WikiProject Deletion sorting pages may not be used in violation of the advertising and soliciting meatpuppets policy which states: Template:Quote

Scope Scope

This project involves transcluding AFD discussions in category specific pages, that makes it easier for people find a topic they have knowledge and interest in. In the past, and still in most cases presently, these discussions are organized solely by date. At one time this level of structure was adequate, because there were sufficiently few deletions that a person could review most of them on a daily basis while still contributing as a Wikipedian. However, Articles for deletion has grown far beyond human scale, with a throughput now approaching 1,000 pages per week and rising quickly. This has the effect of separating deletion debates from the healthy process of encyclopedia-building. It is hoped that a workable system for categorized deletion, which will bring deletion debates to the attention of editors active in relevant topical areas, will alleviate these problems.

Inspiration

This project was strongly inspired by WikiProject Stub sorting, and also by the historical discussion on deletion reform.

This project is similar to others concerned with improving Wikipedia's internal practices, such as those listed at Wikipedia:List of WikiProjects#Wikipedia. In particular, since it is concerned with categorization, it is similar to Wikipedia:WikiProject Categories as well as Wikipedia:WikiProject Stub sorting. • Compact list – a list of all current deletion lists, sorted by topic
• See this page for a complete list of lists, including those which have been merged or abandoned.
• Wikipedia:WikiProject Deletion sorting/Computer-readable.json – a computer-readable list used by the deletion sorting user scripts, such as User:Enterprisey/delsort.js and Twinkle. You can add a list here to make it available in the list displayed by the scripts.

Scripts and tools

• User:Enterprisey/delsort – Enterprisey's deletion sorting script. Adds a link to unobtrusively prompt the user for a category, then automatically add a notice to the discussion and list the discussion. (No list editing required!)
• Deltab – Adds a tab when editing AfD's that adds a specific Template:Tlsx
• WP:FWDS – Fox Wilson's Deletion Sorting script
• Twinkle — Can add categories to AfDs upon nomination
• AutoWikiBrowser
• User:Pb30/Delsort tab (discontinued) – Adds a tab when editing AfD's that prompts user for a deletion list, then adds Template:Tlsx to the AfD and opens the list in a popup window

Templates

• Template:Tlsx – used for tagging active AfD discussions.
• Template:Tlx – the standard header for deletion lists. It should generally be enclosed in "<noinclude>" tags.
