We are a group of Wikipedia editors that have been working on topics related to the sport of cricket since December 2004. Please join us and contribute to the project's development. Please browse this page to make yourself familiar with the project. {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Cricket/Section header|What do we do?}} This WikiProject is about the sport of cricket and it aims to: Create and maintain articles about all people and subjects that are notable in cricketing terms Maintain an efficient and navigable category system to ensure that all cricket-related articles can easily be found by interested readers Create and maintain templates useful for editing and standardising cricket-related articles Update and maintain Category:Cricket templates as the root of a comprehensive, well-structured and navigable category system for all cricket-related templates Accurately classify the status and importance of all cricket-related articles Co-ordinate team efforts and peer review cricket-related articles Keep Current sports events up-to-date, particularly when international matches take place and the senior domestic titles are decided Keep Recent deaths up to date when a notable cricketer dies (in addition, sad though it is, a newspaper obituary presents an opportunity to improve the cricketer's biography) Expand the biographies of everyone who has played senior cricket with distinction; this includes all cricketers who were famous before Test cricket began and all cricketers who have played in at least one Test, at least one ODI or at least one T20I. {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Cricket/Section header|What are we working towards?}} As of 3 May 2026, there are Template:Nts articles within the scope of WikiProject Cricket, of which Template:Nts are featured and Template:Nts are good articles. Most of our work focuses on ten broad areas: International cricket, including Test, One Day International (ODI), and Twenty20 International (T20I) cricket, in addition to matches played in the ICC Trophy/ICC World Cricket League. Comprehensive coverage of all major international cricket tournaments or series since 1877. Domestic cricket predominantly focused on the 12 Full Members of the International Cricket Council and their domestic teams and competitions. Coverage of cricketers to have played at Test, ODI, T20I, first-class, List A, or Twenty20 level. Coverage of umpires who have officiated in major international or domestic matches. Coverage of all cricket grounds to have held matches in Test, ODI, T20I, first-class, List A, or Twenty20 formats, or otherwise historically notable. The Laws of Cricket. Depictions of cricket in all media, such as art, books and other prose, film, music, poetry, sculpture, television, and video games. Creating and maintaining an efficient and navigable category system to ensure that all cricket-related articles can easily be found by interested readers. {{Wikipedia:WikiProject Cricket/Section header|Notability guidelines}} Players and officials A cricket figure is presumed notable if they Have appeared as a player in at least one cricket match that is judged to have been played at the highest international or domestic level Have appeared as a player for an Associate team in a Twenty20 International match after 1 July 2018 in either a World T20 (men or women) or Global Qualifier (men or women) Have appeared prior to 2005 as a player in an ICC Trophy final, or have appeared since 2005 in at least one match in any of the ICC World Cup Qualifier, Women's Cricket World Cup Qualifier, ICC World Twenty20 Qualifier, or ICC Women's World Twenty20 Qualifier competitions Umpires are presumed notable if they've been a member of the Elite Panel of ICC Umpires or meet another of the above points Note: understanding of what constitutes a match played at the highest international or domestic level is central to these criteria, and qualification of a given match is dependent on its inclusion in a substantial source. Youth players (for example, members of under-19 teams) are not notable unless they satisfy one of the statements above, or if they can be shown to meet the wider requirements of WP:GNG. The criteria have been taken from WP:CRIN, which should be consulted for details. Major individual matches (i.e., played outside organised competitions) are those shown to be significant, especially if historically significant, by substantial sources as outlined in Historical sources. Clubs, teams and venues All clubs and teams taking part in senior cricket matches are automatically qualified under the conditions of WP:N and WP:ORG; as are venues used in such matches. Difficulty may arise with clubs that have not competed at senior level and, similarly, with venues that have not staged first-class or List A matches. "Minor cricket" is a specific term in the sport that does not necessarily imply a lack of notability; in parallel with sports like association football and baseball, many cricket clubs in "minor leagues" are professionally run and do employ professional players. It is necessary to take an individual view about each country in terms of its own grassroots structure. WP:CRIC has decided that: for Great Britain, those clubs that have competed in the Minor Counties Cricket Championship or are included in the List of English and Welsh cricket league clubs do meet the notability requirements. The essence of the latter group is that the clubs belong to one of the Lancashire League, the Central Lancashire Cricket League or one of the ECB Premier Leagues. for Australia, clubs that have played at Grade cricket level—the highest level below the state representative team—meet notability requirements. These are the actual clubs to which Australian international players belong. State and national teams are representative selections. for Ireland, those clubs that are competing or have competed in the top division of one of the three provincial leagues: the Leinster Senior League, the NCU Senior League or the North West Senior League. Note: a venue (aka ground), WP:CRIC has agreed that its regular usage by a notable club ensures its own notability per se. Beyond a purely cricketing outlook, a venue is a recognised named site with a fixed geographic location and established community associations of a permanent nature which themselves ensure notability. Competitions and leagues A list of notable competitions and leagues that the Cricket WikiProject deems to lead to presumed notability for players can be found at WP:OFFCRIC. These are competitions and leagues that are deemed too have been played at the highest domestic or international level. Not all First-class, List A or Twenty20 competitions and leagues are considered notable, as although certain competitions may well gain significant coverage, it does not always trickle down to players and umpires partaking in the competition. Players with presumed coverage are those the cricket WikiProject believe to have a number of suitable in-depth sources written about them. The presumption of coverage is the belief that sources do exist for those players. Playing in a non-notable tournament doesn't immediately disqualify someone from being notable. Players that have played in tournaments deemed non-notable may still be notable if they can be shown to pass the wider requirements of WP:GNG.
