Welcome to the Ballet WikiProject, a collaboration area and group of editors dedicated to improving Wikipedia's coverage of Ballet.

Goals
  • Improve Wikipedia's coverage of ballet related articles
  • Create comprehensive lists and articles for ballets
  • Create comprehensive lists and articles for ballet and pointe shoes
  • Improve and maintain articles on ballet dancers
  • Create a larger repository of ballet images which are both aesthetically and technically sound!
Scope
  • Articles pertaining to the art of ballet, ballet dancers and choreographers, ballets, pointe, costume designers for ballets, composers, and anything else that is related to the dance form.

Guidelines

  • Please always remember to cite your sources (look here for collective resources) and, if working on a biography of a living person, adhere to those guidelines.
  • When referring to the French name for a term, please check your spelling (hopefully Glossary of ballet is correct) and put it in italics.
  • Add appropriate categories (see below)
  • Add {{WikiProject Dance|Ballet=yes|Ballet-importance=?}} template to the top of ballet-related article talk pages
  • If you are able to take photographs, you may want to watchlist the Image requests page

Script error: No such module "user". -- Former ballet dancer and long-time dance historian as well as publisher and editor of reference books, including International Encyclopedia of Dance, 6 vols. (Oxford University Press, 1998). Contributor to numerous reference works on dance and musical theater. Access to extensive home library of reference materials.
  2. Script error: No such module "user". started articles about Russian ballet personalities: Maya Plisetskaya, Galina Ulanova, Marina Semenova, Mathilde Kschessinska, Agrippina Vaganova, Sulamith Messerer, etc.

Hello - I am a former dancer who finds more joy in being a ballet historian than an actual dancer. I am currently working on the preliminary research to one day write a book on the composers Riccardo Drigo, Minkus, and Cesare Pugni, who are long over-due their long-deserved credit (Drigo and Pugni the most). I have written articles on Marius Petipa, the Sergeyev Collection, Ondine (ballet) (will add more later), Leon Minkus, Cesare Pugni, La Fille Mal Gardee, Le Corsaire, completely re-wrote La Bayadere and Swan Lake. I would like to re-write the artciles on La Esmeralda and The Sleeping Beauty Ballet. I have added a lot of historic photos from my rather large collection of 19th century photos from the Imperial Ballet. I would really like to re-write the artcile on Riccardo Drigo, but I have to complete the research first.

Take class, much like Gioland71, and attend NYCB to excess, likewise City Center's Fall for Dance and the Joyce; also see ballet and contemporary dance two or three times a year in Stockholm and Copenhagen and would help with the Royal Danish and Swedish Ballets if there were ever time!

  9. Script error: No such module "user". - Interested in all forms of classical ballet, particularly in the 1950s period in the USSR. Big fan of Ulanova, Plisetskaya, Fonteyn, Minkus, La Bayadere, Swan Lake.
  10. Script error: No such module "user". Forty-plus years of ballet watching, first in London, now in Australia. Try to see all casts for each programme as then can make a comprehensive assessment. Learned for 12 years but that's as far as I go.

I'm happy to help to help with clean up, starting with the main Ballet article. Let's get it up to Good Article status!! I'm a ballet fan and my son is a serious ballet student.

Interested in articles about ballet dancers, ballet companies, history of ballet, etc.

I would certainly like to see Wikipedia become a strong resource for Ballet and Dance in general. I have danced for many years and studied all aspects of ballet in depth, particularly ballet history and terminology (including differences in usage between the teaching methods/styles), as well as having fairly extensive knowledge about specific dancers both past and present. I am not on Wikipedia very often but I will contribute when I can, as I think it's a great way to combine my passions for dance and for research/writing, while benefiting the greater dance community!
