Cropped from Image:Jiang Qing (Madame Mao Zedong) and Group.JPG, which is unlikely to be free (source image wrongly marked as PD-self) dave pape (talk) 02:27, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

"Own work" questionable - [1] is All rights reserved. Most of User:Daritto7117's recent uploads are from the same photostream; however, Image:Kalash Girls.jpg is the same as [2], and Image:Young Kalsh Boy.jpg is the same as [3], each from a different flickr user (and also All rights reserved). All of the user's recent uploads are dubious. dave pape (talk) 02:58, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

For some reason this image page has a public domain tag, and a fair use rationale. This should be resolved. Cirt (talk) 05:01, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- Why is it listed as possibly unfree though? I can see that a fair use rationale is not needed if copyright is expired but that is not a serious problem and can be easily resolved. DoubleBlue (Talk) 05:10, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- Well for one thing if it is not free-use then it is being used inappropriately on multiple pages. Cirt (talk) 07:16, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- Why do you think it's unfree? You have not stated any reason to think so. DoubleBlue (Talk) 20:59, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

- As far as I can tell the expired status appear to be legit. After searching around a bit I found this handy compilation of copyright renewals published by the US copyright office from 1950 to 1977 (33Mb text file), and as far as I can tell this issue of Fantastic Adventures does not appear to have been renewed. A couple of authors have renewed stories they published in other issues of Fantastic Adventures (mostly from the 1940's), and L. Ron Hubbard have renewed various other works but no mention of "Masters of Sleep" or this particular issue from October 1950 was found in my search. I'm not sure how complete these publications where, but unless anyone wants to pay the copyright office their $150 per hour fee to do a full search of their records I'd say just remove the unnessesary non-free use rationale and leave it with the copyright not renewed tag. --Sherool (talk) 22:33, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

A banner of some sort, I suspect taken from another website. As such, I doubt the uploader owns the rights to this image. Further, an image cannot be both PD and GFDL. J Milburn (talk) 11:42, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
This is my image, I took the photo personally on the 8th August 2007 along with about 60 other pictures. I am relatively new at this and don't know how to put up the image to allow it to be free. If you have any other comments please feel free to help me. Regards Robert RobertandKathy (talk) 12:18, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- It doesn't look at all like a banner, it looks like a photograph of a woman in front of an illuminated backdrop (like one would find at a fashion show). Look at the motion blur and fuzziness around the edges of the figure. Orpheus (talk) 14:12, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- PS: Robert, the other problem is that you've released the image under two different and incompatible licenses. You should decide whether the image should be in the public domain or released under the GNU Free Documentation License. Both have their pros and cons, but you need to pick one and remove the other tag from the image. Orpheus (talk) 14:15, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
Image:Mauretania Model.jpg
This does not look like a photo taken in 1906. J Milburn (talk) 12:31, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- It's not. It looks recent, and it doesn't convey any information that we don't have conveyed by free images. SchuminWeb (Talk) 14:20, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

This is a scan of an image provided to a fan by the subject actor. The base image is very likely not GFDL as has been assumed by the attachment of Template:Tl. This image would fail the non-free criteria as it is replaceable. Jordan 1972 (talk) 16:37, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Judging by the talk page this has been run by Wikipedia:Copyright problems back in 2004 (unfortunately that seems to be before we started keeping archives of those discussions), and seems to have been more or less summarily cleared since the nom was a "troublemaker", but from what I can see it is not eniterly obvious that this image is public domain. Looking at the city of Last Vegas website as linked to as the source the website itself is certainly labeled as copyrighted (per the "© 2007 City of Las Vegas" footer). The terms of use page does say: Template:(! class="cquote pullquote" role="presentation" style="margin:auto; border-collapse: collapse; border: none; width: auto;" | style="width: 20px; vertical-align: top; border: none; color: #B2B7F2; font-size: 40px; font-family: 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-weight: bold; line-height: .6em; text-align: left; padding: 10px 10px;" | “ | style="vertical-align: top; border: none; padding: 4px 10px; " | Template:Trim quotes | style="width: 20px; vertical-align: bottom; border: none; color: #B2B7F2; font-size: 40px; font-family: 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-weight: bold; line-height: .6em; text-align: right; padding: 10px 10px;" | ” |-
Template:!)However this doesn't seem to refeer to copyright of material produced by the city government as such, just that public documents must be made available for inspection (during office hours). I don't think that can be taken to mean that all content on the city website is automaticaly not subject to copyright. --Sherool (talk) 17:08, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Taken in 1961, cannot be the uploader creation, wrong license, orphaned. OsamaK 17:08, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
- A similar version is avaliable at Commons as well, I think it should be deleted in both cases.--OsamaK 17:09, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Stated to be PD since it's from the Alberta government. However per http://www.assembly.ab.ca/copyright.html : Template:(! class="cquote pullquote" role="presentation" style="margin:auto; border-collapse: collapse; border: none; width: auto;" | style="width: 20px; vertical-align: top; border: none; color: #B2B7F2; font-size: 40px; font-family: 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-weight: bold; line-height: .6em; text-align: left; padding: 10px 10px;" | “ | style="vertical-align: top; border: none; padding: 4px 10px; " | Template:Trim quotes | style="width: 20px; vertical-align: bottom; border: none; color: #B2B7F2; font-size: 40px; font-family: 'Times New Roman', Times, serif; font-weight: bold; line-height: .6em; text-align: right; padding: 10px 10px;" | ” |-
Template:!)So clearly only a non-commercial (and also non-derviative if you read the rest of it), license. Not public domain. Sherool (talk) 17:45, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

Tagged {{PD-old}}. This image is likely to be in the public domain, based on the information that it was taken in 1920, but the PD-old tag is certainly in error: If the photograph was taken in 1920, then obviously the life of the author plus 100 years has not yet expired. It is very difficult to verify the copyright status of this photo with the information given on the information description page. —Bkell (talk) 21:58, 5 October 2008 (UTC)

The source provided does not appear to give any free use of images -- I could not find this particular image in my quick search. Also, assuming it is non-free, the article states, "as the most popular singer in Cambodia today", so it should be fairly easy to find a free image. Also it is the uploader who added the GFDL-presumed license after geting the notice of the image's pending deletion for no licnese. Jordan 1972 (talk) 22:08, 5 October 2008 (UTC)
