The following discussion is an archived debate of the proposed deletion of a fair use image as a replaceable image. Please do not modify it.

The result was to delete the image.

Image was not being used in a way to make it nonreplaceable. —Angr 10:41, 3 January 2007 (UTC)

Replaceable

It's a 67. No reason that we can't go take a picture of one, or use a free resource. 86.142.8.228 20:08, 22 December 2006 (UTC)

Rationale for use

This image is not intended to illustrate a Class 67. It is specifically included as the test train of the Wrexham & Shropshire open-access train operator. This image is only available on the company website, where it is shown in a promotional capacity. On Wikipedia, it is only intended for the Wrexham and Shropshire page, which is why it is not included on any other pages. Hammersfan 23/12/06, 20.10 GMT
We can't use it to illustrate the WSMR test train as nothing in the image identifies it as such. As a result, as a picture of a 67 it fails WP:FUC #1, and as a picture of the WSMR test movement is fails #8 too. 86.128.16.134 21:15, 23 December 2006 (UTC)
There are plenty of free images of the British Rail Class 67 locomotives, including one in the article: Image:67029...26-01-06...PAD.JPG. It should also be possible to create even more images if necessary. --Oden 17:38, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

I have to disagree. In the context of the picture, the 67 is hauling mk2/3 carriages and is standing at Wrexham Station. As far as I'm aware, the chance of this EVER re-occuring (bar the W&SMR actually using them) is very little to zero. Yes, I could find about 200 photos on the Internet of class 67s, but I guarantee that I wouldn't be able to find one of a 67 STOPPED at Wrexham General, at the head of a "passenger" train. I think this image is very much fair use. Worley-d 22:29, 24 December 2006 (UTC)

  • It sounds like the image depicts a rare event, however this is not mentioned in the caption or rest of the article.
  • Also, the image is used in the infobox which serves to illustrate the subject of the article in general and not a specific event.
  • Finally it should be possible to create a image of a MK 2/MK 3 carriage separately. I do not understand why the carriage has to be connected to a locomotive (and not just any locomotive, but a class 67 locomotive).
As a matter of fact, the articles British Rail Mark 2 and British Rail Mark 3 have free images. There are also two categories at the commons: Category:British Rail Mk2 coaches and Category:British Rail Mk3 coaches in addition to Category:British Rail Class 67.
And there is no support in the article for why the image needs to be so specific as to illustrate a particular locomotive connected to a particular coach at a particular train station (Wrexham General railway station).--Oden 12:00, 25 December 2006 (UTC)
The bottom line: the image in question would be considered irreplaceable if it depicted a event which is not repeatable. Since the company in question has not begun its services yet a promotional image depicting the company's services would not be repeatable until the company begins operating.
However this image does not identify the subject of the article sufficiently to meet fair use criterion #8. Since it only shows a railway locomotive and coach it is replaceable with any other image which depicts the same objects. --Oden 13:52, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

So... The image's caption needs updating? Or.. ? Worley-d 22:43, 25 December 2006 (UTC)

The caption doesn't make a difference to criterion #8. 86.138.246.82 00:02, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

I disagree, personally. But my opinion counts for nothing. Worley-d 02:54, 27 December 2006 (UTC)

Feel free to disagree, everyone is entitled to their opinion. However, Wikipedia is not a democracy, so what matters is the merit of your arguments. If you find a photograph that meets the requirements then your arguments will have an impact. Of course the best outcome would be if someone were to take a photograph which is of value to the article in question and upload it under a free license. --Oden 13:46, 28 December 2006 (UTC)
