This is to allow SUL to work also here and unify at least my public identity here:

In fast this is not usurpation. Only here on English Wikipedia, my initial account "verdy_p" has been completely inaccessible since years (not used since then) due to probable corruption of my initial email address. I've tried many times to find which password could be associated to my initial account here, but this has always failed (I've tried many of the passwords I used at that time, and used various of the mnemonic generation tricks I could have used then to set this password). I don't know how to access it.

The target account "verdy_p" (with the lowercase 'p', the capital of the initial 'v' does not care even though I prefer all lowercases) is now completely stalled on en.WP since more than 4 years (see the contribs history), and in fact it has never been used for more than a dozen of old contributions on a single article (I also accept to take these edits in my own history): its log is empty, as well as the home page and discussion page; the only things present are in the contribs history (the account is probably mssing information, may be it has been garbled and created by a bug in Mediawiki in march 2004).

For this reason, I had to recreate a separate account here since several years (as it was not possible at that time to rename accounts if the target had some data in the email field, apparently broken). All my contribs on English Wikipedia are done since long using "Verdy_P" (with the capital P); but this Wiki is not the host of my main acccount (see fr:Utilisateur:verdy_p).

All other accounts on all other Wikimedia projects have used "verdy_p" (with the lowercase p), and they are all confirmed with the same email address and password (and unified recently under SUL, except here on English Wikipedia due to the collision with the old broken account).

Can you rename the old "verdy_p" (lowercase p) account to some alias like "verdy_p2004", or merge it with my current EN.WP account (with capital P), so that my current account here can be renamed "verdy_p" (like everywhere else on Wikimedia projects) ?

Warning Warning ! Not really, now I got access to the two accounts, but the SUL account points here to the old account with an empty history (you did not rename the old account with the lowercase, you just reassigned the password, so that SUL can point to it).

So now I restart with an empty history here, instead of continuing with the history I had on Verdy_P (with the capital P).

There was no merge, Neither of verdy_p or Verdy_P was renamed... So this changes my signature. Do I have to rebuild my preferences from the still existing Verdy_P (capital P) account not seen by SUL? Verdy p (talk) 00:55, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

In fact you performed just the first action (renaming verdy_p to verdy_p2004, but not the second one, so now SUL has automatically created a new account here without notice, because you did not rename Verdy_P (with the capital) as expected. Verdy p (talk) 01:11, 11 June 2008 (UTC)

It is not possible to rename an account to a name reserved to a global login. If you want Verdy_P renamed to Verdy_p, it will be necessary to delete your global account - you can request this at m:SR/SUL.
