This means that your username change will be recorded in Special:Log/Renameuser. The entry will mention your old name as well as your new name. This means you cannot entirely disconnect yourself from the old username by this process; you can only do that by abandoning your present account, starting a new one, and making no mention of the fact that they are connected.
