User comment: Far be it from me to question the opinion of a respected WikiElf, but I fail to understand the reasoning behind this sentiment. If it's merely the inclusion of the word "Insane", I feel obviously compelled to point to the hundreds of other usernames which include this word. To be abundantly clear, I do not have any inflammatory intent with either my desired username or my contributions to Wikipedia. I quickly created this one with the name based off of my secondary e-mail address but am now hoping I can have it changed to a similar variant of my previous user account name. User comment:Ah I see. Hrmm... okay. I've triple checked the characters in the ListUsers page, and if possible, could I have it changed to -=(TiM)=- then if possible please? Even though I've checked the listusers page and confirmed as best I can that all of these characters are valid, the rename user template still won't accept it unless I modify it slightly.
That still breaks the template, but special:listusers has an example of a similar name (User:-=(Volkov)=-). I've manually fixed the rename links - we'll have to see if it works. WjBscribe 16:25, 12 June 2007 (UTC)
User comment: Ah, I see. Yeah, I tested my old username (-=TiM=-) in the template before, and that one failed too. I could probably assume that the characters '-' and/or '=' aren't being properly handled in it. Other than that, Wikipedia seems to handle it fine. If it did indeed work, how long would it take for the changes to update? Or conversely, has it already been done and it failed?
Once a bureaucrat reviews the request, they will tag is as done or not done. If the rename is successfull it will take effect straight away - your userspace will be renamed and you will only be able to log in under your new name. WjBaway 07:33, 14 June 2007 (UTC)

Template:CHU You can't delete usernames, but you have the right to vanish. You can have an admin delete your user space for Blairstephen, but you can't move the edit counts over. Blairstephen will still be logged in the pages you edited with that account. ~ Wikihermit 02:37, 15 June 2007 (UTC)

I have two options to request in this case:
  1. (preffered) if upon a rename of user the history and details of User:Blairstephen would be migrated to the new user name then I request the new username User:FormerBobbacons.

However given their intention to cease contributing this is probably not too big a problem - it would not be acceptable for an account called Righttovanish1 to resume editing (that would be rather confusing) in any event.
