Drifting in Silence
Drifting in Silence
Drifting In Silence, is Shoegaze meets Dancing Shoes. To the trademark shifting layers of aural light and shadow, composer/multi-instrumentalist Derrick Stembridge had added driving, motive rhythms that provide a new edge that you'll be hard-pressed not to dance to. Voices, processed and pumped through vocoders, achieve new prominence. Complex, industrial-strength percussion keeps everything moving, while lyrical keyboard lines weave through and tie everything together.
Derrick Stembridge, the composer and multi-instrumentalist behind Drifting in Silence, creates light, ambient musical soundscapes that make listeners feel as if they are floating on clouds. Stembridge composes and plays all instruments in his music, including (but not limited to) guitar, bass and keyboards. Stembridge's music takes listeners for a joy ride never experienced before, a ride that impacts the senses in more than the simply auditory dimension.
About the Band
At the helm of Drifting in Silence, Derrick Stembridge brings forth music that incorporates groove rhythms, instrumental riffs and concrete sounds, inventing an ambient sensation of movement through regions of light and shadow. His CD, Truth, ranges from meditative tone poems to relaxing easy chair grooves. Developing his ideas further in Ladderdown, Stembridge adds sonic depth and timing textures. His latest, Fallto, takes his previously-explored territory one step further, adding edgy vocal textures and punchy rhythms that carry the listener on a tour de force of aural experience.
Comments On The Sound
"Dancing washes of synths and gentle, percolating percussion... (Stembridge) employs every beat and tick as compositional elements, most finely illustrated on the sailing 'Apart.'" - Aaron Ashley / XLR8R (USA)

Richard Watts
Sir Richard Watts (1529-1579) was MP for Rochester, Kent in the 1570s. Famed locally for his philanthropy, he established a house in Rochester High Street for the benefit of six poor travellers, each of whom, according to a plaque on the outside of the building, would be given lodging and 'entertainment' for one night, before being sent on their way with fourpence.
The house was the inspiration for Charles Dickens' short story, The Seven Poor Travellers. Watts' benevolence and the Dickens story are remembered during Rochester's fancy dress Dickensian Christmas Festival, when a turkey is cooked and ceremoniously distributed to 'the poor' at the house.
Watts' legacy was so substantial that a charity bearing his name is still in existence today. The Watts Almshouses, administered by the charity, on Rochester's Maidstone Road, are a fine example of Victorian gothic cottagery.
Queen Elizabeth I was the guest of Sir Richard Watts in 1573. When he asked her if his house was to her liking, she replied 'Satis' (Latin for 'enough'). The house was thereafter known as 'Satis House'.
The house is now the administrative building for Rochester's King's School. A bust of Watts has been set on top of the building's portico.

Havana Harbor
Havana Harbor is the port of Havana, the capital of Cuba, and it is the main port in Cuba, excluding the US Guantanamo Bay Naval Base (GITMO); technically a territory of the United States, and not a Cuban possession. Most vessels coming to the island make port in Havana; it is where many of the more powerful heads are located.
The Maine
In January of 1898 the USS Maine, the largest vessel to come out of an American shipyard, was dispatched to Cuba to protect US interests. At the time over 8,000 US citizens resided in the country, and their safety couldn't be assured in the state of affairs at that time. On the fifteenth of February, the Maine was sunk by a mine in the harbor. It became a major rally call for the Spanish-American War, and it caused the US to finally intercede on Cuba's behalf. In 1910 the wreck was removed from the harbor, it was posing a hazard to navigation, and was sunk in deep water in the Gulf of Mexico with proper military ceremonies.

DECT Standard Cipher
DECT Standard Cipher ist an encryption standard, used in DECT phones to protect communication between a handset and its associated base station. As a part of the DECT standard, the encryption algorithm was not openly published and was only available under NDA to the phones' manufactures from the European Telecommunications Standards Institute.
Algorithm leak
June 8, 2002 parts of the Samsung DECT SP-R6150 implementation was "reverse engineered" and published in the alt.anonymous.messages newsgroup. [1]. The published algorithm seems to be a variant of the free CARACACHS[2] algorithm.

Riverside (Atlanta)
Riverside is an intown neighborhood located in northwest Atlanta, Georgia. It is so named because it is situated along the Chattahoochee River.
Location
Riverside is bordered by the Chattahoochee River to the north, Jackson Parkway to the west, Southern Railway train tracks to the south and Paul Avenue to the east. Bolton Road is the main arterial street that runs through the neighborhood and at the intersection with Main Street is a small village center with a restaurant, fire station, car wash and thrift shop.
About Riverside
The area that is now known as Riverside started as a working plantation, known as the Spink's Estate after its owner, Mr. Spink. One of the main streets of the neighborhood is called Spink Street. Following the death of Mr. Spink's daughter in 1914, the grand estate was broken into smaller lots, some for houses and some for farms. In time, the farms gave way to more houses. Today, Riverside is a properous community in which older houses are being renovated or torn down to make way for new larger homes. The actual Spink Estate residence and carriage house still stands today at the intersection of Spink Street and Hollywood Road.
Education
Riverside, like all areas of Atlanta, is part of the Atlanta Public Schools district.
Bolton Academy (Elementary)
Sutton Middle School
North Atlanta High School
Libraries
Atlanta-Fulton Public Library System operates the Perry Homes Branch in Riverside.

Honkeysnorphus
Honkeysnorphuses in foam-rubber art
A term used by various foam-rubber and clay-working artists to describe an arching piece of foam or skullcap on a large mask as a primary support for more showy masks. Often, this piece is semi-rectangular and fastened in place by hot-melt or spray glue.
Honkeysnorphuses in clay and raffia art
Used in this way, it is often a log or branch supporting a cloth or raffia screen over the user of the mask, often with eye-holes or a crest.

Department of Management Services (Florida)
The Department of Management Services of the State of Florida is a government agency whose task is to provide services to the other government agencies. The range of services provided purportedly includes "administrative, personnel, purchasing, and IT services" (1). The official website of the Department puts it more wordily as "services and support in the areas of human resource management, retirement benefits, health benefits, real-estate management, specialized services, state purchasing and technology" (2a), rather leaving the reader puzzled unless they know of the first definition. So, basically this department does not (?) provide anything directly to the public, although this fact is only hinted at by the statement following that lofty phrase, saying "Successfully delivering quality products and services allows all levels of government to better serve the citizens of Florida." (2b) (emphasis by author of this article).
As of date (2008) and as of google, this kind of Department seems to be unique to the State of Florida (apart from some far-out Diocese that, according to google, also has something similar). Its name is, however, used (what else) and that's rather confusing if you run into it trying to grasp its meaning and you're not a Floridian, hence it calls loudly for a sound explanation like this one :-)
The Department is headed by the Governor of the State of Florida, Charlie Crist as of date (2008), and the Governor's secretary, Linda H. South as of date (2008), under the more pompous title of Secretary of the Department of Management Services. So this Secretary is a person in a Minister's position with no external function (as related to the government administration), more like a secretary of state or undersecretary.
The Department boasts a lot of good things, such as supporting the environment in its real estate recycling program (3).
The Department was founded in (no idea, just thought somebody might be interested in that encyclopediacastically, after someone else fixed it to give the date) for the reason of (reason). Well, after all, why not centralize provision of all that stuff needed by the other ministries, it's just unintelligible why the head of such a department has to be in the rank of a Minister.
