Fondes Amandes Community Re-Forestation Project (FACRP)

Template:Afc r

The Fondes Amandes Community Re-Forestation Project (FACRP) is a community base agro-forestry project that started in 1982 by a group of farmers living in the Fondes Amandes Watershed. The seeds for the FACRP were sown in by the late Tacuma Jaramogi and wife Akilah Jaramogi current Managing Director of the project.

In 1991, with the intervention of the Tropical Re-leaf Foundation, the then WASA Chairman Mr. Imtiaz Hosein planted a ceremonial tree to signify his approval for the FACRP to continue its conservation efforts on 15 acres of WASA reserve land situated in the Fondes Amandes Watershed.

The Project’s initiatives were to halt the degradation of the Fondes Amandes Watershed through the practises of Agro-Forestry activities such as: Tree planting, cutting fire traces developing proper drainage and terracing and the introducing of hillside farming, intercropping with fruit and hard wood trees.

FACRP has since grown from strength to strength formalising a Management Committee and expanded its membership to other members of the community. The aim is to help address some of the social ills that are affecting the Fondes Amandes Community and by extension the country.

The Management Committee over the years developed several Modules which helped FACRP focus on its project’s goals and helped address some social issues within the community. These Modules includes:

Organic gardening/permaculture Clean Tree Organic Nursery Community Eco-Tourism Forest fires prevention Tree planting Community recycling/composting Craft and cottage industry Music and culture and community empowerment Fondes Amandes Community Re-forestation Project’s aim is to conserve the St. Ann’s watershed, using ecological restorative methods; beginning at the foot hill of the Fondes Amandes Valley aiming at reaching the naked degraded ridge of Chancellor hill.

PROJECT OBJECTIVE5 • To encourage community development and create opportunities for employment for the Fondes .Amandes community • To promote the development of sustainable, responsible eco-tourism In the St Ann’s watershed • To protect the bio-diversity of flora and fauna In the St Ann’s watershed • To work with other communities and organizations throughout the region who share the same goals to conserve and protect the environment.

The FACRP partners with several educational, social and environmental organizations. The FACRP has partnered with several educational, social and environmental organizations such as:

Toliver Craig, Sr.

Template:Afc a

Template:Tlx

Template:Tlx

Toliver Craig, Sr. (c. 1704-1795) was an 18th century American frontiersman and militia officer. An early settler and landowner in Kentucky, he was one of the more prominent defenders of Bryan's Station when it was attacked by the British and Shawnee on August 15, 1782. Craig was also an early follower of the Baptist church, he and his family preaching their religious views in the Colony of Virginia during the 1760s and 70s.

His son Toliver Craig, Jr. was an important landowner in Scott and Logan County as well as a representative of the Kentucky state legislature.

Biography

There is some confusion as to the circumstances of his birth. According to traditional accounts, Toliver was reportedly the illegitimate son of an Italian sailor and a widowed Scottish emigre. After her husband John Craig died, Jane Taliaferro left Scotland for the Colony of Virginia accompanied by her two brothers. Sometime during or after the voyage, Taliaferro gave birth to Toliver or Taliaferro Craig in 1704 or 1705. Another version claims Craig was the "posthumous" son of John Craig, he and Jane Taliaferro being married in Italy shortly before his death.

His mother, died soon after his birth and he was raised by his two uncles in Spotsylvania County and became a modest farmer and member of the Virginia militia. In 1730, he married Mary (Polly) Hawkins with whom he would have 12 children. He and his family were largely illiterate, however although he is presumed to have been of good social standing as the Hawkins family were prominent in Virginia society at this time.

During the 1760s, his family embraced the Baptist movement. He and his sons Louis, Elijah and Joseph Craig, became Baptist preachers and were apparently imprisoned by colonial authorities for expressing these views. [1] Eventually moving to Kentucky, his family were living at Bryan's Station when it was attacked by British and Shawnee raiding party under Captain William Caldwell and Simon Girty. He and his wife were some of the more well-known defenders, the 66-year-old Mary Craig volunteering to fetch water outside the fort.

He later became a prominent landowner, purchasing the David Bryan estate from John Bowman, [2] and donated large amounts of land to the Baptist church. He died in Woodford County, Kentucky in 1795.

Kate Giles

Template:Afc r

Born and raised in England, Kate has always loved to travel and learn new languages. When she finished her schooling at 18, she decided to up and leave for Spain for a year. Her first few months there were spent learning Spanish, but she soon fell in love with the country and decided she wouldn't be ready to leave after just a year - so she studied for the relevant exams and got a place at Malaga University to study Translation and Interpreting with English, French and German.

After the first two years of her degree, Kate decided to go and spend some time in France and Germany to really get to grips with those languages. So then came six months in Munich, followed by six months in Paris, working in a variety of media-based jobs. Then it was back home to England, where she'd decided to complete her final year of study. But her feet were soon itching again, and after graduating Kate took up a year-long placement at DW-TV in Berlin. Most of her time was spent in the newsroom, working with the translators. As the placement came to an end, Kate was offered a position as sports anchor on the English news program "Journal". When she's not reporting on the latest sporting events, she enjoys working as a member of the team of translators in Deutsche Welle's newsroom. Kate still loves to travel when she can, the rest of the time, she's enjoying discovering Berlin and all it has to offer. -Cited Source DWTV

Many people believe she is attractive and she presents her programs well. She has done nes reports in Spanish which she speaks fluently and she presents Top Magazine as well as Sports on the Journal.

Fairview High School (Tennessee)

Template:Afc r

The earliest settlers to the area now called Fairview were men claiming Revolutionary War land grants in the early 1800’s. When the land proved to be too poor to farm, many of these early settlers moved away. Subsequently, more settlers moved to the area and cut down so many trees, that the community was at first named Barrens. Later, when a new post office was built, citizens in the area changed the community’s name to Jingo. It was not until 1933 that Jingo was renamed Fairview.

In 1922 Fairview’s first business, Daugherty’s store, was opened by Mr. Will Daugherty. Peddlers traveled to the remote farms to supply farmers with the staples they needed. About this same time there were several gristmills and sawmills operating in the area. Hotels, built near mineral springs in nearby Fernvale and Primm Springs, touted the healing ability of these springs causing many visitors from all over the South to visit this area. In 1930, Highway 100, which runs through the center of Fairview, was completed creating a main artery of travel between Nashville and Fairview.

As the community developed and grew, so did the number of churches and schools. Though a group of early Jewish settlers in the Fairview area drifted away to other locales, they were soon followed by numerous Protestant families whose descendants still populate this community. Soon various Protestant churches dotted the landscape.

Fairview's first school, a hastily built one-room structure, dates back to 1910. Because children had to walk to school in the early days of the community’s existence, there were a number of small schools, namely Forest Glee, Aden, Liberty Hill, Naomi, Hudgins, Jingo, New Hope, Haskill, and Starkey Schools. About 1938 the first five schools listed above were consolidated to become Fairview School. The first unofficial school bus was actually a milk truck driven by Mr. Christopher Mangrum, who would transport students to school as he picked up milk from area farms. Later, a school bus was purchased by Otto Green and S.E. Lehew, who charged parents fifteen cents a day for each child riding the bus to Hillsboro High School. This is the school that teenagers attended before Fairview High was built. In the 1940’s Williamson County began school bus service to area schools. The first Fairview High, called West High opened in 1956 and housed grades seven through twelve. In 1961 Fairview Elementary was built, and it schooled all of the elementary students in the community with the exception of those attending Pinewood Elementary.

Electricity was brought to Fairview in the early 1940’s, and telephone service began in the 1950’s. Fairview was incorporated and became a municipality in 1959. Tome Taylor, Fairview’s first mayor, made bringing water to Fairview an issue in his campaign for office. Fairview finally did get city water in the middle 1960’s. Fairview has the distinction of being second municipality formed incorporated in Williamson County, and the first to have a woman mayor, Mary Clinard. Fairview now has a health clinic and a library, both of which are located on Highway 100.

A history of Fairview cannot be complete without mentioning the Bowie family who left such an indelible mark on the community. When the family of one brother and three sisters moved to Fairview in the 1950’s, they were viewed as outsiders because of their unconventional ways. These well-educated sisters, who often wore men’s clothes, were an enigma to the community. One sister, Byrd, was devoted to animals and tended to numerous wild and domestic animals. Anna, a physician and frequent lecturer at Vanderbilt University, tended to the family’s business affairs. Van, the third sister spent years salvaging large tracts of eroded farmland that the family had purchased in Fairview. After the death of their brother and sisters, Van Bowie donated land for the Fairview Volunteer Fire Department in 1985, the Fairview Public Library in 1987 and 794 acres to the city of Fairview to create a park in 1990. The eroded land that she had restored to beautiful woods and lakes would be a legacy to the community for all to enjoy. She asked that the park not be named after her, so it was named Fairview Nature Park. Each September a festival called Nature Fest is held in the park to celebrate Fairview’s good fortune for having been so blessed by the generosity of the Bowie family and to raise money to improve the park.

Template:Afc r

Template:Afc r

Peepe is the opposite of poopo (i.e. peepes and poopos are related, they but differ in smell, texture and appearance). It is unkown when the two were first discovered, but it is widely beleived that both sightings occured within a few days of eachother. Furthermore, a few practicalities of peepes and poopos include lighting poopos on fire and watching someone stomp out the fire; peepe can be applied to the door handle of a car thereby thereby indirectly applied to someones hand; also, poopos can be placed on a cars engine resulting in poopo-smoke emission from under the cars hood.

West Point Sword history 1802 to today

Template:Afc r

Sources

Today’s U.S.M.A. West Point cadet swords are unique and easy to identify from all other academy style swords. Every West Point sword has Athena's helmet molded into the center of the brass hand guard. Athena's helmet is a copyrighted insignia of West Point. The blade would be etched with the letters U.S.M.A..The academy started to use this style of sword in 1922 and is still issued today. U.S.M.A cadet swords are copyrighted by the academy and are only sold at the academy's cadet store. The sword is issued to cadet seniors for free, but must be returned at the end of there senior year. Any cadet or alumni can buy a new sword for their own for $124.95. The sword is made today only by Weyersberg Kirschbaum Company in Germany

Swords issued from 1872 to 1922 were made only by the Lilley Company then M.C. Lilley & Company and then later the lilley-Ames Company Columbus, Ohio. This sword had an MA molded into the center of the brass hand guard. It was engraved with U.S.M.A. on the blade. This is important because Lilley-Ames sold a lot fo swords to other military schools like the Citadel, so if it does not have the U.S.M.A and Lilley-Ames on the sword this was not issued, The number of issued swords were limited because most cadets could not afford to buy there own, and were returned to the cadet store.

Cadet swords made from 1839 to 1872 are very rare, only 100 were made, and the only 2 known examples of 1839 swords belong to West Point. The hilt is made of solid brass and the wire wrap grip was silver plated. The photos are poor quality and I am promised new color digital photos as soon as they are available. I will post the new photo’s when as soon as the are available.

There are many questions about the first cadet store issues swords, There are no known examples nor are there any photo’s but most experts believe that in 1802 to 1839 sword would probably look like or was the French Grenadier Sergeants model used in the Revolutionary army.

Before 1802 cadets were not issued swords, so they carried the a non uniformed sword, which they had to supply them selves.

Non Academy swords are shown below N.S. Meyer's never made sword's for West Point.

And Never Let Her Go (lifetime movie film) 2001

Template:Afc r

Sources

Based on a true crime story, the two-part TV movie And Never Let Her Go recounts the disappearance of Anne Marie Fahey in June of 1996, and the subsequent arrest and conviction of her accused murderer. Hired as a secretary by powerful Delaware attorney and gubernatorial aide, Thomas Capano (Mark Harmon), Anne Marie enters into a torrid and ofttimes abusive affair with her kinky boss. When Anne Marie's relatives report that she is missing, the governor of Delaware solicits the aid of the U.S. Department of Justice to solve the case. Although detective Frank Gugliatta (Paul Michael Glaser) and assistant U.S. attorney Colm Connolly (Steve Eckholdt) suspect that Capano has done away with Anne Marie, they are stymied by a lack of tangible proof...notably, the girl's body. It is not until Anne Marie's diary turns up in a most unexpected manner that Gugliatta and Connolly are able to fully act upon their suspicions -- and even then, the ultimate solution rests with the cooperation (or lack of same) of Capano's brother, Gerry (David Hewlett). Oscar winner Olympia Dukakis appears as Thomas Capano's formidable mother. Filmed in Toronto and told largely in flashback, And Never Let Her Go was originally telecast by CBS on April 1 and 4, 2001. ~ Hal Erickson, All Movie Guide
