Wikipedia Is Not Democratic

Template:Afc r

It's getting harder to be a Wikipedia-hater. The user-generated and -edited online encyclopedia—which doesn't even require contributors to register—somehow holds its own against the Encyclopedia Britannica in accuracy, a Nature study concluded, and has many times more entries. But even though people are catching up to the idea that Wikipedia is a force for good, there are still huge misconceptions about what makes the encyclopedia tick. While Wikipedia does show the creative potential of online communities, it's a mistake to assume the site owes its success to the wisdom of the online crowd.

Social-media sites like Wikipedia and Digg are celebrated as shining examples of Web democracy, places built by millions of Web users who all act as writers, editors, and voters. In reality, a small number of people are running the show. According to researchers in Palo Alto, 1 percent of Wikipedia users are responsible for about half of the site's edits. The site also deploys bots—supervised by a special caste of devoted users—that help standardize format, prevent vandalism, and root out folks who flood the site with obscenities. This is not the wisdom of the crowd. This is the wisdom of the chaperones

Zerco

Template:Afc r

The Moorish dwarf named Zerco was a laughing stock to Atilla. Though Bleda was amused beyond all measure, not merely by Zerco’s stammering talk, but particulary by his twisted and painful walk. He kept him by his side both at his banquets and on his campaigns: he even made him a little suit of armour to increase the grotesqueness of his figure. Once Zerco escaped with a number of other Roman prisoners. Bleda cared nothing for the others, but he was wild with rage at the loss of Zerco. Horsemen scoured the countryside until the dwarf was found, and Bleda roared with laughter when he saw him brought back in chains. He asked him why he had tried to escape. Zerco, in his strange, halting speech, said that it was because Bleda had never given him a wife. The Hun laughed more loudly than ever. He swore that he would give him one of the ladies-in-waiting from the empress’s palace in Constantinople.

Splash Marketing and Promotions

In January of 2008 Lucas than worked with the Hillary Clinton Campaign/Hillblazers on an International acclaimed film he produced.[1]

Political

In December of 2007, Lucas was fortunate to meet with former President; Bill Clinton at a private function in Toronto, ON. Lucas went into the meeting with an angle to see if he could voluntarily become involved in Hillary Clinton's Presidential Campaign, in terms of the media aspect. He had memorized a one-minute speech to deliver to Clinton, but was told just before meeting him that he would only have 10 seconds.

He told CTV's Canada AM he quickly edited his pitch, quoting a line from Clinton's book, telling him that he had dual citizenship and explaining that he wanted to 'be part of history' by making a promotional video for Hillary Clinton. Lucas noted that he appreciated the book and how it had inspired him to do what the book had suggested; "utilizing your skill, the best thing a person can give". Lucas than explained that he was studying film in Toronto, and how he had a skill to give, and how he believed that Sen.Hillary Clinton would be the next President. Clinton then handed his personal business card to Baiano and gave him the chance to help, authorizing the Clinton campaign office to send Baiano several hours of raw footage of the presidential hopeful.

After a frenzied two-week rush of sleepless nights and long hours going through footage, brainstorming ideas, and countless hours of compositing and editing, Baiano came up with a slick, cinematic, three-minute video that had Clinton's Campaign and supporters around the world watching the video online, quickly boosting its status on the YouTube most-popular list.

The video promotes Clinton as the Democratic leadership candidate who will provide the most benefits to the U.S.'s burgeoning middle class. The film is portrayed in a theatrical trailer style, where there are build-ups, captivating shots, and inspirational undertones. Lucas described that he wanted to change the way people viewed political campaign ads, he wanted to play with pure inspiration. The end product, described by many as a “cinematic, trailer-esque” short, had the same effect on individuals that Lucas intended; "Powerful", "Moving", and "Inspirational".

Lucas than found what appeared to be his true calling; Film and Politics, immediately after production, Lucas took on the 2008 Presidential Election to another level of interest, devotion and passion. Baiano, whose family has a history of supporting the Democrats -- his mother is American-born, and his Great Grandfather, who was the longest living Democratic Committee Man in Buffalo, NY -- said he is confident about Clinton's chances of success and wanted to be involved in a campaign, that he believes will make history as the first to successfully bring a woman to the White House. Lucas explained he was also getting involved in the 2008 Presidential Election based on personal levels as well; "Living a life long legacy" as his whole family was involved with the Democratic Party, and how his mother was taken to seeJFK at one of his Democratic Primary Rallies when she was five. He felt compelled, and truly believed that he had an opportunity to be apart of history, and live up to his families involvement's.

HEALTH-CARE STANCE

Baiano is proud of his role in a ground-breaking campaign wherein a woman and an African-American led the race to be president. Impressed by Clinton's stance on universal health care, Baiano was just happy to help the fight for Presidency.

Once completion, the film than took a life of its own, generating media and political publicity for Baiano. The film as well as Lucas' story of how he was now involved in the campaign, was aired internationally and on every major network in Canada. Lucas was published in over 2 dozen articles and was featured on talk shows such as NBC's Daybreak to numerous radio shows, such as CBC Radio. The film was played in its entirety several times during prime-time television on CTV NewsNet. Lucas than appeared on CTV's Canada AM the following morning to go over what had been an overwhelming, yet in his words, humbling experience.

Lucas than met with Former President Clinton on a second occasion, this time at a Sen.Hillary Clinton Democratic Rally, which President Clinton was speaking on behalf of. Baiano than spoke and brought President Clinton up to speed with what has been going on with the film and its impact. President Clinton acknowledged his achievements.

In January of 2008, Lucas traveled down to Miami Beach to meet with Sen.Hillary Clinton at a private fundraiser to speak with her in regards to the film and campaign. Lucas personally spoke with Sen.Hillary Clinton on adapting the film towards Hillblazers, Sen.Hillary Clinton told him that they would work at achieving that mindset and personally thanked him for all of his work. While down in Miami, Lucas was able to generate more publicity with local news affiliates as he addressed his story. Lucas was also able to connect and network with media agencies who offered him positions; Lucas passed for then, as he wanted to stay within the political standpoint.

Lucas than appeared on CBC's The National on Super Tuesday, to not only discuss his film, but to express his political views regarding the democratic parties and on how media had acted as a significant catalyst in the 2008 election, especially towards the youth. Lucas now became even more involved with the 2008 election/Hillary Clinton Campaign, as publications were now quoting Lucas' take on universal health-care and on his political analyzations.

Baiano currently has a plethora of future projects in the works. Among them is yet another Hillary Clinton Campaign video. This time around, Baiano will target the younger demographic as well as supporters. Ed Walters' 1987 hoax, perpetrated in Gulf Breeze, Florida. Walters claimed at first having seen a small UFO flying near his home, and then in a second incident seeing the same UFO and a small alien being standing by his back door after being alerted by his dog. Several photographs were taken of the craft, but none of the being. Three years later in 1990, after the Walters family had moved, the new residents discovered a model of a UFO poorly hidden in the attic that bore an undeniable resemblance to the craft in Walters' photographs. Various witnesses and detractors came forward after the local Pensacola newspaper printed a story about the discovered model, and some investigators now consider the sightings to be a hoax. In addition, a six-figure television miniseries and book deal were nearly struck with Walters

In 2005, Lucas was granted an opportunity to work with Holocaust survivor; Eva Ollson on an introduction awareness film to integrate with her epic story of struggle and survival. In January of 2008 Lucas than worked with the Hillary Clinton Campaign/Hillblazers on an International acclaimed film he produced.[2]

The film will hope to feature a cast of mainstream celebrities, such as a Grammy Nominee exemplifying the portrayal of what Sen.Hillary Clinton has to offer.

Among his many goals, Lucas hopes to motivate other American-born dual citizens to support Hillary. As he explained on CBC's The National; how about one million Americans live in Canada, approximately another seven million living broadly, and how they have the option of voting in the election via absentee ballots. As one Canadian endorsing Hillary and showing a devotion of passion and inspiration towards her campaign, he hopes to do the same to American people.

The Amsterdam Loeki Stardust Quartet is a professional Dutch recorder quartet which was founded in 1978 by four students of the Sweelinck Conservatory Amsterdam, e.g. Daniël Brüggen, Bertho Driever, Paul Leenhouts and Karel van Steenhoven. Following its formation, the ensemble's reputation grew quickly and was further strengthened at the 1981 Musica Antigua Competition in Bruges where, challenging the competition rules, it performed an unusual arrangement of a Stevie Wonder song and emerged as the winner.

During the last 30 years, the Amsterdam Loeki Stardust Quartet has enjoyed an international career and are recognized as a serious ensemble of unparalleled virtuosity. They have appeared together at many early music festivals including those in Berlin, Utrecht, London and Sapporo, and regularly tour throughout Europe, the USA and Japan. They also perform separate from festivals in concert halls. In 1998, 2001, 2004, Queen Beatrix of the Netherlands requested the quartet to perform for her during official festivities. This will happen again in 2009.

Since its formation, the quartet has continually explored the boundaries of the recorder consort, playing a mix of recorder music from all ages of music, expecially from the Renaissance, Baroque and twentieth-century. A number of composers have been inspired to write for the Quartet, which has helped create a new repertoire that proves the recorder to be an important voice of our time.

A few years ago, both Bertho Driever and Paul Leenhouts left Loeki Stardust in order to persue another career in music. They were replaced by Daniel Koschitzki and Andrea Ritter. After internal struggle, it was decided to end the ensemble which lead to a farewell concert in november 2007. After seeing each other in private, the four founding members of the group decided to regroup in order to celebrate their 30st anniversary in 2008, but not to make plans after that since they do not with to reestablish an ensemble. At present, about 50 concerts are planned all over the world.

Recorded music

The Amsterdam Loeki Stardust Quartet has made a wide range of recordings on CD of recorder music throughout the ages. Two of them were awarded with an Edison Award.

PLAN B

Your section for Plan B (law) is blank. This can be fixed by linking to content you already have:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Practice#History_of_the_series

A recurring strategy used by the practice – especially Eugene – is informally known as the "United States of America defense", an appeal to patriotism which emphasizes the rights of their client as Constitutional priorities that must be upheld by the jury. However, the firm is far more notorious for employing a strategy they refer to as "Plan B", which involves creating doubt with the jury as to their client's guilt by accusing a third, usually innocent party of the crime. While the strategy is often effective, it would occasionally backfire once the D.A.'s office grew familiar with the strategy. This tactic invariably causes great emotional distress for the attorney employing the plan when they know that the target is most likely innocent. Thus, in such cases, Plan B is used only as a last resort. Despite the firm's friendship with Helen Gamble, the practice's use of Plan B, combined with the firm's high win/loss ratio against her, attracts ire and scrutiny from the D.A.'s office, particularly in the case of senior A.D.A. Kenneth Walsh.

Windbrett

Template:Afc r

A Windbrett, also Giebelbrett mentioned, is a Ornamental element at a half timbered house. It covers the characteristic of some half timbered houses. The name Windbrett could point on the function to give to the house a less angular shape in order to prevent a whistling of the wind. Windbretter are frequently painted, for example with flower ornamental art or even with complex painting, which illustrates persons and articles. Many particularly beautifully arranged Windbretter are to be seen at the Knochenhaueramtshaus in Hildesheim.

A complete in depth Biography of Pakistani Pop Icon SALEEM JAVED

Template:Afc r

Saleem Javed (real name Mohammad Saleem, ' Javed is a nick name ' ) is something of a national treasure. He has been an active performer for over two decades and unlike the popsters of today, who often take shortcuts to fame, he’s cut his teeth performing night after night live on stage. Coming from a humble background, Saleem Javed, ran away from his hometown of Hyderabad to seek fame and fortune in Karachi, repeating the ritual any number of starry-eyed young men do, chasing elusive desires. But fate had something else in store for him, other than shattered dreams. Seemingly out of nothing, Saleem Javed carved a career based on a relentless work ethic and a single goal: giving it his all on stage and behind the microphone.

Transformations Through Time

His transformations throughout his career have been almost Bowie-esque. From his disco king image in the eighties to his various avatars in the nineties (pop malang during the JUGNI era; desi gangsta image artist on the Piya Gee album) to his modern, carefully sculpted likeness as an ageing metrosexual, Saleem Javed concentrates on his getup as much as he does on his music. And speaking of his music, it has seen quite a few transmutations itself. He performed the incredibly cheesy, yet addictive ode to Javed Miandad in ’86 when the latter smashed his legendary six in Sharjah (Cricket ki dunya mein sab say aagay hai woh kaun?). He has covered ageless artistes such as Ahmad Rushdie and Mehdi Hasan (Dil Ko Jalana , Tum Mere Ho, Ek Bar, Dil-e-Veeran) and his newest hit re-mixes (Mere Harian from last album Kabhi Koi Aye Ga and Koi Kar kay Bahana from new album DOSTI) tributing Mala this time, are all over-crossing the charts. Though his originality and the end results of his experiments may be debatable, no one can doubt his perseverance and the fact that whether you think his music is good, bad or ugly, the guy tries hard, and has been doing so for 20-plus years. And he also happens to be in sur, on stage and in studio aswell.

Trend Setting Achievements

Saleem Javed practically started the trend of Re-Mixing old songs with new instrumentation and improvisation 23 years ago. He did the first ever re-mix in Pakistan in his first album Listen to My Voice launched in 1985 and the song was " Janam Aii Janam by Legendary Madom Noor Jehan ".

“My first album, Listen to my Voice, was released on March 7, 1985. I used to perform on stage and had been doing so since my school days, but I didn’t start seriously performing on stage till 1983. My stage experience helped me immensely. You have to perform in front of a crowd that doesn’t know anything about you, while the compere has just praised you to high heaven. And then you have to deliver. Luckily for me, Allah has been incredibly gracious and people appreciated my performance. As for singing live, that was the only way to do it back then. The concept of lip-synching was almost non-existent. The whole idea of miming to a CD was introduced by people who didn’t know how to sing,” said Saleem Javed.

After the release of his debut record, Saleem Javed gained prominence through his version of Faiz Mohammad Baloch’s Laila o Laila, and according to the singer, this was something of a novelty as previously, pop artistes had nearly always chosen to reinterpret Punjabi folk tunes. Hence he took a risk by reinterpreting a Balochi folk song and the risk paid off. But far from basking in past glory, the singer has a gripe with some of his pop peers as according to him, certain individuals fail to give credit where it is due.

“I don’t want to name any names but some singers don’t want to give anyone any credit. The world over artistes are respected for their contributions. For instance I was the first singer to introduce the wireless microphone in Pakistan. I added a lot of things to my live act, such as wandering out into the crowd, singing with headmics, adding a dhol player to my pop music to create a first ever Bhangra-PoP Fusion in Pakistan in mid 80s. These things were unheard of in the pop scene at the time. Today you see every pop band perform with a dholak player or a tabla player. But nobody wants to give credit for these achievements. Who was doing these things 22 years ago?” SaleemJaved.

Early Days

Singing, though, wasn’t Saleem’s first calling as in his early days he wanted to be an actor.

“I tried out a couple of roles during my school days and came to the realization that I’m a horrible actor. ‘Wait,’ I said to myself. ‘U-turn.’ That’s when I thought about becoming a musician. I asked a gentleman, the late Siddique Mukesh, to teach me to play the keyboard. He initially shooed me away but I was persistent and pleaded with him to give me a lesson or two every week. He relented and one day while I was practising, he asked me why I didn’t sing. I told him that I was a horrible singer but he insisted and urged me to sing for him. I gave in and by the time I was finished, he surmised that I had a slight problem with sur, but that I was in taal (rhythm). As is the maxim for musicians: ‘Be sura chal jaata hai, be taala naheeh chalta (an out-of-tune singer can survive, but not an out-of-rhythm one).”

From thereon began Saleem Javed’s journey towards the pop limelight. He was urged by his teacher to practise with one of the local bands, but they insisted that the young buck pay a fee if he wanted to polish his voice. On top of that, the singer faced stiff opposition from home as his parents didn’t want him to turn into a Singer or join Showbiz.

“Firstly, I didn’t really come from a very financially strong family, and when they cut off my pocket money, I was in a real fix. I couldn’t afford to pay the fees required for training and practice and asked them to let me join assuring that I’d pay them the following month. Luckily they agreed.”

A couple of days after taking up his apprenticeship with the band, the members asked Saleem to sing. One of the band’s friends was in attendance and as he was organizing a function at his place, he joined in the chorus urging Saleem to sing. Sing he did, jumping up and down like a monkey (in his own words), delivering his rendition of "Alamgir’s Dekha Na Tha" the first every song he performed publicily. By the time he was finished, he thought he would be booted from the joint. Instead, everyone present burst out into applause as Saleem got his first professional booking. The rest is pop history.

Tears and Challenges

As Saleem gained prominence and started getting more bookings, the green-eyed monster of envy soon reared its head as the other band members began to feel insecure about Saleem’s growing star profile.

“It got to the point that nobody was willing to play with me anymore. Promoters refused to pay me my dues. I was literally in tears. I had had enough and that’s when I decided to pack up and leave for Karachi. I was going to do music and I was going to show each and every one of them what I was capable of. I asked a friend of mine to lend me the bus fare, said goodbye to my family and left for Karachi,” .Saleem Javed

Story Goes on

The artiste had arrived. Once in the port city, he began making more contacts and since his slight fame preceded him, started getting shows. He started working on his album and his album was revolutionary in terms that first time ever in Pakistan 24 track recording system was brought in, and its an achievement for Saleem Javed too that he was lucky enough to record the first ever album on that system. His first record hits the market in 1985, Smash Hit Nationwide, and his popularity was no longer in the borders of Pakistan and he had his first ever international Concert in Dubai. And the STAR keeps on traveling to the world representing Pakistan and its culture through his music. So far Internationally Saleem Javed has performed numerous times in UK, U.SA, CANADA, JAPAN, HOLLAND, CHINA, AUSTRALIA, SOUTH AFRICA, HONG KONG, BANGKOK, THAILAND, DUBAI, MUSQAT, OAMN, BAHRAIN, SAUDI ARABIA, SRI LANKA, SINGAPORE, PHILLIPINES.

Uncrowned King of Pakistani Pop

So there you have it. At an age when most Pakistani males are battling mid-life crises, Saleem Javed seems to be having a ball of a time. The secret to his longevity is just as elusive as it ever was. But something tells us that come hell or high water, the man will not stop recording, singing and performing anytime soon and that his position as the uncrowned king of uncool cool will not be challenged by any wily pretenders for the foreseeable future. Long live the king.
