You cited a proof by Hopcroft and Ullman by linking to a copy of that paper stored at http://bioinfo.ict.ac.cn/~dbu/, which is the personal directory of Dongbo Bu, Professor, Institute of Computing Technology, Chinese Academy of Sciences, 6, Kexueyuan South Road, Zhongguancun, Beijing, 100190, China.
