Articles tagged for deletion and rescue Category Articles tagged for deletion and rescue not found Hi, Mokhov, welcome to the Article Rescue Squadron! We are a growing community of Wikipedia editors dedicated to identifying and rescuing articles that have been tagged for deletion. Every day hundreds of articles are deleted, many rightfully so. But many concern notable subjects and are poorly written, ergo fixable and should not be deleted. We try to help these articles quickly improve and address the concerns of why they are proposed for deletion. This covers a lot of ground and your help is appreciated! Some points that may be helpful: Our main aim is to help improve articles, so if someone seeks help, please try to assist if you are able. Likewise feel free to ask for help, advice and clarification. Many times we are asked to help rescue articles by people new to our notability and sourcing policies. If the article is not fixable we can help explain why and offer alternatives. Many of these editors are also new to Wikipedia so may see deleting "their" article as "bitey". Encourage civility and maybe even Template:Tl them if they have only been templated with deletion messages. The Articles for deletion (AfD) discussion is where the concerns regarding each article are brought up and addressed. To be an effective member of the project you need to know how AfD works as well as how to improve articles. Introduction to deletion process gives a good overview and some good advice for newcomers to deletion. Our primary work is improving articles tagged for rescue. On this template you can see a drop-down list of current articles tagged. You can install it on your own page by putting Template:Tl. A more dynamic list with article links and description is on our current articles page. It is highly recommended you watchlist it. If you have another language besides English, please consider adding yourself to the list of translators available. Articles and sources that use non-English languages often need translation for those of us who cannot translate for ourselves. Many important discussions take place on the project's main discussion page; it is recommended that you watchlist it. I had planned to rewrite/merge part of the article into a larger article eventually anyway so even if it is deleted at AfD I can request undeletion when it comes time to merge these articles. I went ahead and made a post on WP:ANI about the overall pattern as this wasn't the first time they've done that sort of thing to other editors. I'm looking forward to UMSDOS turning into a speedy snow keep though ;) --Tothwolf (talk) 06:29, 15 September 2009 (UTC) I think WP:ANI perhaps is too harsh at this point. While it is strange Miami33139 went onto a deletionist AfD spree despite their seemingly inclusionist stance (judging by their user page), these might be a viewpoint of clean up of the underdeveloped articles that need improvement. It is conceivable some people prompt this way other editors to improve the quality of the said articles indirectly, so Miami's edits might not be of a bad faith, but I am not certain. Anyways, ANI's up and so are the AfDs, so let the process take its due course and let's improve the articles meanwhile... :) --Mokhov (talk) 14:46, 15 September 2009 (UTC) No, the ANI report was in response to them targeting my edits specifically, which they've also done in the past. The main difference this time they were much more brazen about it. The discussion is here and I included diffs. The only reason they went after me was I added the Template:Tl template to the talk pages of a handful of articles that they prodded so that the article alerts notification page for WikiProject Computing would give notification of these prods. More generally, Miami has been mass-prodding articles for quite some time and had stopped for awhile but seems to be back at it again. I don't have enough time and effort that I can expend right now for this. Currently it follows the ruwiki layout and simply transliterates stuff line-by-line based on exceptions, trigrams, bigrams, and unigrams. Besides there are also issues to resolve like would all Ye (Е), Yo (Ё), Yu (Ю), and Ya (Я) be grouped under just 'Y', then S (С), Sh (Ш), and Shch (Щ) under 'S' etc.? If so, any merges, etc. would require additional re-sorting of the entries after the merges. If we keep them separate, then the enwiki alphanumeric TOC template would still act funny (if that were your intention instead of the regular TOC). --Mokhov (talk) 18:29, 21 October 2009 (UTC) Well, if you ever get a chance to work on this, it would be an improvement. That all yes, yos, yus, and yas would be grouped under "y" isn't a big deal, in my opinion, and this in the English Wikipedia, after all, so we should be grouping stuff using the English alphabet. On the other hand, it's not something that has to be done asap—if it's too much work, don't worry about it. We might just sort the list by hand once it stabilizes and having the script stops being as helpful. I will see about re-writing it to alphabetize the list as you suggest. I can treat such things as exceptions in my script, but, perhaps, you are correct: at some point we may need to fix the list, adapt it properly to enwiki and stop the script-assisted maintenance, and let it have its own life independently from the ruwiki one. I propose to start thinking of that after we alphabetize it for enwiki.
