Belgium
Dear Karel, I'd like to see Belgium article featured. Would you like to participate to the peer review and maybe support the article when it will get to be featured article candidate? Thank you Vb 10:36, 7 October 2005 (UTC)
- Last week (October 3) an anonymous user (81.209.204.115) drasticly reduced the article (in his words) "according to comments in FAC". A South-African user reverted this as "vandalism" but this repair was re-reverted again by another anonymous user (131.220.68.177) with an rather insignificant argument about one small detail. I agree that the article needs to be digested before it can be a FAC (Featured article candidate) again, for instance by moving details to the more specialized articles. But in this case, they simply removed some elements, for example the "republican" United States of Belgium, the "anti-revolutionary" Flemish peasants war, the "American" Marshall Plan and five of the most important Belgian writers of Dutch literature. Later on the same anonymous corrector also removed the mention of the Belgian atrocities in Congo. Featuring an article and featuring a country is not all the same. Passendale
Hi Karel,
I notice that you have changed the spelling of Passchendaele (the battle) to Passendale to reflect modern usage. I'd like to suggest changing it back, because that is the way the battle is always spelled in English language histories. There seems to be a convention that the name of a battle is that used at the time, whatever the place is currently called. A more obvious example would be Stalingrad, the city now being called Volgograd (IIRC) but the battle is still always called Stalingrad.
The other point is that the changed spelling now doesn't agree with the article title.
I haven't changed the article back, as I wanted to talk it through with you first.

- Of course, Passchendaele remains Passchendaele, Ypres remains Ypres and Messines remains Messines. At the time everybody had maps with names in Belgian-French and so these names became famous. I didn't change the title nor the description of the battlefields. I only mentioned once or twice in the article(s) the Dutch names like Passendale or Mesen or Ieper, who already existed at that time (see footnote in that article about Ypres). So people can find these places on modern maps too. Karel Anthonissen 16:37, 30 November 2005 (UTC)
- Ah, yes. I read the diff list a bit too quickly. I'm happy with your changes now. Cheers, --Squiddy 17:42, 30 November 2005 (UTC)

I moved your article to Draft:Jan Bernheim. It appears to be an autobiography created by User:Jan Bernheim. Autobiographies are strongly discouraged, per Wikipedia:Autobiography. The article needs more secondary sources per WP:BLP and WP:N. --Animalparty! (talk) 19:19, 30 April 2018 (UTC)
