I've spent a good lot of my Saturday on this but that's enough for today.
In all my previous comments, I forgot to mention that I never found the time to actually read the lenghthiest parts of this page. I did so over this morning's coffee and boy. Boy.
I re-arranged things a bit, and all the redundant information, when regrouped, began to appear. Twice is mentioned the origin of Paris and its name. Twice in two ways is mentioned Paris' population and growth. These should be merged. Everything concerning Paris' administration... well, it's speckled with many a non sequitur. In other articles there is complete information contained (or should be contained) in other pages that need only a word/link of explanation. In short, if someone reading about Paris for the first time actually does wade his way through all that text, he will come away with an unclear picture.
The whole structure of reference articles should be destined even to those totally ignorant of the subject they're reading. A reference article must start with the basics and gradually emerge the reader into other areas of greater detail or selected interest. When reading an encyclopedia have you ever "skipped past the obvious"? You can't do that here.
I'm going to toss all this through my head before coming to any conclusion, but I think this article needs a total restructuring - a lot of work.
