External links

Please do not add inappropriate external links to Wikipedia, as you did in Courteney Cox. Wikipedia is not a mere directory of links nor should it be used for advertising or promotion. Inappropriate links include (but are not limited to) links to personal web sites, links to web sites with which you are affiliated, and links that exist to attract visitors to a web site or promote a product. See the external links guideline and spam policies for further explanations of links that are considered appropriate. If you feel the link should be added to the article, then please discuss it on the article's talk page rather than re-adding it. See the welcome page to learn more about Wikipedia. Thank you. --Yamla 15:48, 8 January 2007 (UTC)Reply

Your edits to Nickelodeon GUTS

Thank you for contributing to Wikipedia, FrenchIsAwesome! However, your edit here was reverted by an automated bot that attempts to remove spam from Wikipedia. File:Stop hand.svg This is your last warning. The next time you insert a spam link, as you did to Johnnie Walker, you will be blocked from editing Wikipedia. Persistent spammers may have their websites blacklisted as well, preventing anyone from linking to them from any site that uses the MediaWiki spam blacklist, which includes all of Wikimedia and Wikipedia. RJASE1: I didn't know that such links were considered spam; I was merely putting previous links in a more readable format. I apologize for violating Wikipedia conventions.

How to get on in Society

Thanks for your message (U and non-U English). I can only direct you to John Betjeman's gently humorous ditty of the title, which you can find [here]. Whatever anyone says, in England, the class structure is still very much alive, and not much changed (although I don't know anyone who says 'looking glass' any more).

Fish knives are non-U because they didn't exist before the late C19 - thus showing that your cutlery was not old, and purchased (rather than being handed down)!

Cruets are interesting. Again, I think they were not around much before the C19 (you had silver trencher-salts [[1]]). I think the idea of having salt, pepper and mustard all together in a neat little tray thing is probably rather, well, bourgeois...

As for doilies, those round paper jobs cut to look like lace, they are just too 'twee' and are definitely contrary to the down-to-earth thinking of the aristocracy.

The whole thing is a game in order to avoid non-members joining your group. I imagine the Game exists in some form or another in all societies from the English aristocracy to remote New-Guinea tribes. I find it great fun and hugely entertaining. Those with less humour find it irritating in the extreme.

No need to revert your edits as I see someone has already done so!

Best wishes

Notification: changes to "Mark my edits as minor by default" preference

Hello there. This is an automated message to tell you about the gradual phasing out of the preference entitled "Mark all edits minor by default", which you currently have (or very recently had) enabled.

On 13 March 2011, this preference was hidden from the user preferences screen as part of efforts to prevent its accidental misuse (consensus discussion). This had the effect of locking users in to their existing preference, which, in your case, was true. To complete the process, your preference will automatically be changed to false in the next few days. This does not require any intervention on your part and you will still be able to manually mark your edits as being minor in the usual way.

For established users such as yourself there is a workaround available involving custom JavaScript. With the script in place, you can continue with this functionality indefinitely (its use is governed by WP:MINOR). If you have any problems, feel free to drop me a note.

Thank you for your understanding and happy editing :) Editing on behalf of User:Jarry1250, LivingBot (talk) 18:30, 15 March 2011 (UTC)Reply

Script error: No such module "Check for unknown parameters".

A tag has been placed on Palo Alto Rowing Club requesting that it be speedily deleted from Wikipedia. This has been done under section A7 of the criteria for speedy deletion, because the article appears to be about a club, society, or group, but it does not credibly indicate how or why the subject is important or significant: that is, why an article about that subject should be included in an encyclopedia. Under the criteria for speedy deletion, such articles may be deleted at any time. Please read more about what is generally accepted as notable.

If you think this page should not be deleted for this reason, you may contest the nomination by visiting the page and clicking the button labelled "Contest this speedy deletion". This will give you the opportunity to explain why you believe the page should not be deleted. However, be aware that once a page is tagged for speedy deletion, it may be removed without delay. Please do not remove the speedy deletion tag from the page yourself, but do not hesitate to add information in line with Wikipedia's policies and guidelines. If the page is deleted, and you wish to retrieve the deleted material for future reference or improvement, then please contact the Template:Querylink. DrStrauss talk 08:52, 3 October 2017 (UTC)Reply
