Irish War of Independence

Hi, I've noticed your good work in this area, mostly around RIC related topics. Any thoughts on the main article and how it could improved? Certain aspects of it are bugging me, namely, too much commentary in places, lack of narrative structure (which admittedly is difficult for a guerrilla conflict) and missing out of some important facts -especially from the political side of things. I'd be interested to hear your thoughts on the subject.

Your edit to Chronology of the Irish War of Independence

Can you explain what confirmation you are looking for here please? It's slightly vague. Thanks. One Night In Hackney303 14:30, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

Actually after further investigation I think I understand now. It's actually a different MacKinnon, John Alister Mackinnon I think. One Night In Hackney303 14:40, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

I thought so. See the Discussion page for "Auxiliary Division" for my detailed objections.--Cliodule 15:06, 12 April 2007 (UTC)Reply

References

Hi again Cliodule. I'm chasing up references for the Irish War of Independence article as requested and was hoping that you could help a little bit. You contributed some quotes and information (originally on the Chronology page, but I moved them to the main article), mostly about British policy I think, and it would be good if you could stick your sources in as we're trying to get the article fully referenced. Thanks in advance, Jdorney (talk) 13:52, 1 February 2008 (UTC)Reply

Comment Question

Hi Cliodule - I noticed you made a comment on the Bloody Sunday (1920) page concerning the use of the verb "to kill." I think you were trying to convey the article wasn't neutral because deaths caused by IRA agents are in the passive voice (X was killed by Y) and deaths caused by the police are in the active (Y killed X). Your comments were somewhat unclear, so I may have interpreted your comment incorrectly, but this is how I view the article, too. Maybe you want to check it back out and see if what I wrote jives with your POV? http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Talk:Bloody_Sunday_(1920)#Use_of_the_word_.27killing.27 || Lizconno (talk) 03:58, 24 November 2008 (UTC)Reply

I've removed all adjectives in reference to the Black and Tans and simply substituted an explanation as to the name. 'Notorious' has a negative connatation, whilst Irish Nationalsts may have disapproved of the Tans actions Irish Unionism and British people generally would not. Paradoxically to Irish Unionists and other Britons the IRA are notorious. I toyed with the idea of actually using the word 'celebrated'. To the British people the commandos and SAS are heroes whilst to the Nazis and Taliban they're 'notorious'. If you can suggest a term that is truly neutral I'd go for that, maybe 'battle hardened' or 'fearsome'? — Preceding unsigned comment added by Shamrockawakening (talkcontribs) 12:10, 7 August 2014 (UTC)Reply

I'll let the explanation of the Black and Tans nickname go, people can click the link if they want an explanation but again I've taken away the word 'notorious' because it is not a NPOV. Why don't we just leave it without any adjectives if we can't agree on one? Shamrockawakening (talk) 13:03, 8 August 2014 (UTC)Reply
