Satellite exlinks

Howdy. I notice you've done a really dilligent job adding google maps exlinks to lots of articles. Rather than linking directly to Google maps, you might consider using some of the geographic info templates described at Wikipedia:Manual_of_Style_(dates_and_numbers)#Geographical_coordinates. These have several advantages - chiefly they link to a whole big bunch of mapping resources (including google maps, encarta atlas, navigation stuff, USGS stuff). Also these links will (one day) include support for a forthcoming extension to wikipedia's software, which will allow rendering of maps directly by our software.

So, for example, you'd use {{coor d|12.0433|S|77.0283|W|}} (which yields a link that looks like

  1. REDIRECT Template:Coord

Template:Redirect category shell). Programs like Google Earth and NASA World Wind make finding the latitude and longitude for anywhere pretty simple. Thanks, and welcome from me too. -- Finlay McWalter | Talk 22:34, 24 September 2005 (UTC)Reply
